Re: Compiz broke?
OK, now I am really comfused. I was moving a window and when I got close to the edge of the screen it rotated to another desktop. Yet I cannot use ctrl-mouse to move to other desktops as I did before. Still the Window Manager and Window Manager Tweaks apps will not launch. Was there a bad update or ...

Re: Compiz broke?
I've got the same problem. Upgraded to 17.1 today and tried out the fancy new window manager compiz. Yeah looks cool, switched back to xfwm. I am left with one desktop (it won't let me create another one) and the top line and min/max/close buttons of dialogues are gone. Did I mention Alt-Tab and Al...

[Closed]Compiz broke?
Just went back Xfce window manager. Today I went to change to another desktop and the usual ctrl+mouse would not spin the cube to another desktop. I switched to Xfwm and back to Compiz and still no go. I removed the ~/.config/compiz-1 and still not working. Also the Window Manager and Window Manager...

Re: Improving Linux Mint performance
For that machine I would go with XFCE version. Either that or add in a decent graphics card and disable the onboard. Or both.

Clone to SSD?
Has anyone cloned their Linux installation to an SSD drive? What software did you use and what problems if any did you run into?

Shortcuts, launchers, menu items... knowledge needed
I'm not quite sure where to post this but I want to understand how all these things work. This is what is confusing me today. Using Mint Linux 17.1 with XFCE 4.10. I downloaded kdenlive today from the Software Manager. Afterwards it was nowhere on the menu. So I started investigating. I found the kd...

Re: Kdenlive
FWIW: I ran the command in the release notes and it said everything was already the latest version.richyrich wrote:Have you read about the issues with KDE apps in the Mint 17.1 Xfce Release Notes ?

Kdenlive [Solved]
I just installed kdenlive from the Software Manager. There is no menu item and I'm having trouble locating the executable. I have found libraries and whatnot for the application. Any ideas why a menu item was not created? And where the executable may be located?
Thanks
Thanks

If I am running XFCE 17, can I upgrade to Cinnamon 17.1 through update manager?

Doh! I was so excited I didn't notice the RC.r00t wrote:Don't quote me on thisBut I think you have to wait until the Final version is released until you can upgrade via the manager. That's what Cinnamon and MATE did, I believe.

Whee! I've been waiting patiently for this. Can we 'upgrade' from 17 or do we need to reinstall?
Thanks

Re: Have you found an effective alternative to Remmina?
@Minty, it randomly closes on me in Mint Qiana Cinnamon. Also, it doesn't resize to fit window properly on startup. The resize issue has been around for a while, but the random close is new. KRDC works much better for me right now... I'd be willing to bet that's a Cinnamon issue. I haven't seen any...

Curious as to what issues you guys are having with Remmina? It has been working flawlessly for me on RDP.

Re: [Solved, sort of]VPN setup for work network.
open another thread for the vpn indicate who the vpn provider is what vpn client you are using (openvpn?) and open terminal tail -f /var/log/syslog and try to connect. I got the vpn working. Typo in config. Only issue is run nm-applet in terminal only shows nm in panel until ctrl-c or termin...

Re: [Solved, sort of]VPN setup for work network.
OK, one little issue. When I run sudo nm-applet, it seems to prevent any further input to the terminal unless I hit ctrl-c. Then the applet disappears from the panel.

Re: VPN setup for work network.
OK, well sudo nm-applet does make appear. Now my connection reports as failing, but that's another issue. At least I can work around it until there is a fix.PatH57 wrote:maybe it is related to this bug?
