Re: Linux Mint 17 "Qiana" MATE RC is out!

I can't get a Mint 17 MATE 32 bit iso to boot. I've downloaded it two times now. I've tried on several computers. All the other Mint 17 iso's boot just fine. Is there a trick to getting a, "good" Mint 17 MATE 32 bit DVD to be bootable? Well I finally got a working Mint 17 MATE 32 bit iso....

Re: Linux Mint 17 "Qiana" Cinnamon RC is out!

Ubuntu 14.04 considers my 2007 Intel wifi card as legacy hardware and the DVD doesn't support it.

The Mint 17 DVD does support it.

Re: Overheating on Vostro 1310 (Mint 14)

You may want to make sure you have the latest BIOS, which is A15, especially if the BIOS is older than A!0 as BIOS A10 and newer have improved thermal control.

Re: dell laptop linux

The Core i7 model is the newer model. It is fast but the Intel graphics aren't supported in the latest version of Ubuntu or Mint. In general it is supported by Linux. The issue with Intel graphics and Ubuntu 13.10 and Mint 16 haven't been fixed yet though. The Core i5 model is the last generation an...

Re: Asus n76VB laptop

I don't have one but I often see many problems with Linux and Asus laptops. Asus and Toshiba are usually the most reliable in terms of hardware but Linux seems tricky on many Asus laptops. I'm not sure how well Linux does on Toshiba laptops. Acer laptops usually seem to have least trouble with Linux...

Re: This Motherboard OK?

The Gigabyte GA-H81M-HD2 board does get good reviews. It is intended for the home media center computer market and is quite a bit cheaper than the other generation 4 boards. H81 - home media computer H87 - home entertainment / home office computer B85 - business computer Z87 - gaming computer For mo...

Re: Video Hardware Accleration and Synatics Touchpad Problem

I believe with laptops (and desktops too) the current Nvidia 3d graphics drivers supports back to the Nvidia 8000 series graphics. I think the Grforce Go 7 / 7000 series (and desktop Geforce 6/7) Nvidia graphics like yours requires the legacy Nvidia drivers. Latest legacy 64 bit Linux driver. http:/...

Re: How to install and download intel drivers on Linux Mint1

It looks like there are some dependencies required that are missing for Ubuntu 13.10 / Mint 16.

Re: How to install and download intel drivers on Linux Mint1

Intel donates their drivers to open source. They are usually included with the installation with Linux. Here are the Intel open source downloads. https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads Some older information for the earlier version. http://www.webupd8.org/2013/03/intel-releases-linux-graphics-driver...

Re: Sluggish UI/video performance on NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GS

The Nvidia Linux drivers were starting to outperform the Windows drivers. With the latest drivers Nvidia has scaled back performance in Linux to not exceed that or their Windows drivers. With older graphics cards that shouldn't matter though. The 8400M GS has 128 MB of memory and the 8600M GT has 25...

Re: Sluggish UI/video performance on NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GS

I have a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop. The Nvidia graphics are either 8400M GS or 8600M GT. The 8000 series Nvidia are the oldest ones supported by the latest drivers. There are drivers for older graphics but the 8000 series is not that old. I use Mint 15 right now and have no problems with the Nvidia gr...

Re: computer takes ages to start-up... problem unknown

This seems to be an issue with certain computers, especially certain laptops, with Linux or BSD. This is usually a firmware problem with the recommendation of updating the BIOS if possible. The other thing is if there is a lot of memory or two different, non-matching, memory modules in the computer....

Re: TV Tuner Card for Mint 16 Cinnamon

I use the 1250 card to record TV. Note that the remote control (if included) doesn't work for Linux. There are a few other computer remote controls that do work in Linux though. I use the keyboard and mouse for now. I use me-tv to record broadcast TV on the hard drive and then I transfer the videos ...

Re: linux mint mate 16 x64 intel graphic driver installer

The main difference I see is Ubuntu Studio uses the Linux low-latency kernel. This can be added to Mint. I tried it and got both the original kernel and the low-latency kernel in Grub. I haven't tried any 3d games yet but I do have a Core i5 4570 (not the S version) and am using the Intel HD Graphic...

Re: TV Tuner Card for Mint 16 Cinnamon

When scanning for channels with me-tv I use both USA and Canada to get the most channels but it still misses some of my local channels. There is suppose to be a way to add channels manually but I haven't bothered trying yet. The 1250 is a single receiver and the more expensive 2250, besides more exp...

Re: TV Tuner Card for Mint 16 Cinnamon

It depends on your location and your TV service. The Hauppauge HVR-1250 works only for digital TV in Linux. In Windows it uses software to convert analog TV. For analog TV in Linux the Hauppauge HVR-2250 works as it has a hardware converter. It does require downloading and installing additional firm...

Re: ASROCK Z87 Extrem4/TB4 Bad Shutdown/Suspend

I think you may have posted earlier that you already tried this, but if not, what worked for my Gigabyte Z87 to shut down properly was to disable Wake on LAN in the BIOS. The ASROCK Z87 boards use the absolute latest and most powerful Realtek ALC1150 Audio Codec. This is suppose to be better than ol...

Re: All Mint Editions Intel I217V Ethernet Hangs on Z87 Boar

Intel donates their factory drivers to open source. So the open source Linux driver should be the factory driver. I seem to recall a couple of Linux kernels ago, that the kernel or a kernel module included, "experimental" support for the Intel network card but the newer driver is not compa...

Here is a good explanation of Intel ME,

Intel Management Engine.

It doesn't look like a fix for your issue.
