Re: getting annoying warning re gtk.css:20:1

I did sudo find /usr -name "gtk.css" -exec grep -obUaPl \xa0 {} \; and came up with no hits.

Let's just ignore this...

[ignore this] getting annoying warning re gtk.css:20:1

I run a lot of scripts and consistently get this warning: Theme parsing error: gtk.css:20:1: '/*' in comment block I tried searching for all gtk.css files in /usr/ and found maybe 20 or so. I don't know which ones are triggering the warning. Another site says the warning arises because there's a non...

Re: Toggle INSERT or OVERSTRIKE mode in gnome-terminal

Found a solution: Install zsh.
  1. In the terminal enter 'zsh'
  2. do all the inputs and edits you wish
  3. when finished, type 'exit' in the terminal to return to the bash shell.
One of these days I'll learn how to use zsh.

SOLVED Toggle INSERT or OVERSTRIKE mode in gnome-terminal

Is there any way to get the 101-key US keyboard's <Insert> key to toggle the terminal between Insert and Overstrike mode? Doing so would make it much easier for me to enter similar information into a batch file that I have: Inputs: vsid 1.12 45 vsid 1.13 47 vsid 1.14 51 In the default Insert mode I ...

Re: grub now fouled up

Thank you very much, karichen! Yes, I have LM19.3 and LM20 (and even LM18.3) all in the same partition, and LM20 is the first one on the boot order, and is the last installed. I booted into LM20, then fixed the /etc/default/grub file. I rebooted into LM19 (which is no. on the bootup grub menu), and ...

Re: LM 20 new install -- display wrong resolution

First, there is the sound of palm slapping forehead re LM 19.3 instead of 20 .

I just rebooted into lm20, and the system is able to detect the HP 22" monitor.

Don't know why it didn't before.

I guess the system fixed itself.

Thanks for your help

Re: [SOLVED] how to install lm20 WITHOUT systemd, or remove it from LM 19

Folks, I think we're beginning to gossip or complain about LM, and I'm not sure that this is the proper forum for it. BTW antikythera , I tried to send you a PM regarding the issue of non-systemd OSs, but you're not receiving any... I feel snubbe4d  Karichen gave the complete answer for me here...

SOLVED LM 20 new install -- display wrong resolution

Using my laptop, I downloaded the ISO for cinnamon, then used dd to copy it to a usb thumb drive, which I then booted on my desktop machine. After installing the display is stuck in 768x1024 mode. The DISPLAY window in the Admin menu says "Laptop", and there seems to be no way to change. The drivers...

Re: how to install lm20 WITHOUT systemd, or remove it from LM 19

Thanks to all. I'll keep researching. Right now it looks like changing network connections > [device] > IPv4 Settings Method: Automatic (DHCP) and Additional DNS Servers: [to desired ones] seems to do the trick. It wasn't before, but seems to be working now. Perhaps there was a type in my original s...

[SOLVED] how to install lm20 WITHOUT systemd, or remove it from LM 19

also, is it possible to remove systemd from lm19.3? I have discovered that many of the annoyances Ive been experiencing, the most recent being the fact that /etc/resolv.conf keeps getting overwritten -- are the direct result of systemd 'balancing' or whatever it is said to do. 1. How do I remove sys...

Re: grub now fouled up

I used to use this but I was advised not to in this forum. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:danielrichter2007/grub-customizer sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install grub-customizer It's either use grub-customizer or else downgrade grub2 to a previous version that would put the currently running OS at t...

[Solved] grub now fouled up

It used to be that I could boot on some entry in the grub menu, then after boot I could enter some grub command, and grub would rescan the devices and create a new boot menu with with the current OS at the top of the list, so it would be the default next time. Now, somehow my preferred version of LM...

Thanks for all your replies.

I broke the sed down into smaller pieces, and it now works. There apparently was a typo somewhere.

Re: Two sed Questions

But where are the <a> and <p> tags closed? I forgot to add "\[\1\]</.a>" to the example. The <p> is closed later by another sed. Can it be there are other HTML tags between the @@[n.X] and first </span>? Yes, there can be many, such as <span> and <i>. But the </span></span></span> string is unique ...

Two sed Questions

I am making a bash file to update several thousand html files. Many of them contain popup 'footnotes' which I am in the process of changing to links to 'footnotes' at the end of the html file. Sometimes a paragraph (single long string which wraps in the browser) will have several footnotes. I have w...
