Re: How to: Compile the latest kernels (Classic Mint & LMDE)

I prefer to take the ubuntu sources instead of kernel.org one. For instance for my Mint 17, I clone git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-vivid.git then basically do: make oldconfig export KCFLAGS="-O2 -pipe -march=native -mtune=native" time make -j8 deb-pkg sudo dpkg -i linux-image-*.deb linux-head...

Dual monitor, primary is the wrong one

I have mint 17.2 and nvidia 346 driver on a laptop with an nvidia ION, everything is working fine, fast, HW decoding for video, etc. I pluged a second monitor, it was on the right, used nvidia-settings to setup, everything works fine, even full screen video on the second monitor. Now I fixed the sec...

Re: How to: Compile the latest kernels (Classic Mint & LMDE)

This thread is one of the first one to appear in Google when searching for mint compile kernel. It works, but AFAIK the kernel Makefile use their own flags, not CFLAGS, you need to do a:

Code: Select all

export KCFLAGS="-march=native -O2 -pipe"
for it to use the native architecture.

ICC profile in Xfce, how?

I ran Mint16 Cinnamon before but switch to Mint17.1 Xfce, I need to color correct my monitor which is very bluish. In Cinnamon it was easy, setup/color and load the ICC. However in Xfce I cannot find any settings for this. I tried xcalib but it seems to do nothing... How can I load an ICC profile in...

Re: suspend restart immediatly…

maybe a USB device, in my case it was my mouse that made suspend restart. do a: cat /proc/acpi/wakeup you will have maybe USB0 USB1 USB2 and USB3 in enabled state. Do a: echo USB0 > /proc/acpi/wakeup to disable USB0, then suspend to see if it restarts immediately. if yes, disable another USB. when y...

Re: cinnamon-screensaver in 24H format?

Thanks Karl, but in fact it is hard coded in the source, if I change the locale only the AM/PM dissapear, but the clock stay in 12h format. Seems it will be a feature for the future!

Re: cinnamon-screensaver in 24H format?

Not sure how, but changing LC_TIME can change it, however even if en_GB should be 24h, it is still 12h in the locale, why?
Using en_DK seems to only remove the AM/PM string but keep time in 12h, confused?

cinnamon-screensaver in 24H format?

There is a big clock on the lock screen, it is in 12H format, I would like it in 24H. (I am using Mint16-32bits Cinnamon) I am not sure how to do this, I took a quick look and it seems hardcoded in the source: time_value = g_strchug(g_date_time_format(now, _("%l:%M %p"))); Can this be change by a co...

Great on my netbook!

Years ago it was messy to install Linux as a desktop, and configuring video/audio/other was a challenge. But with Mint nowadays, wow! My netbook (HP Mini 311) works perfectly, everything! Nvidia driver, audio, wifi, webcam, etc everything works out of the box, I am impressed! So great job developper...

"Continue" button is greyed out

At Mint16 installation, I connect to wifi, press continue, partition, continue, choose my city for time zone but then "continue" button is greyed out and I cannot press it, I have to press back then re-continue. It happened too when I got the question for partitioning/installation option, I click on...

New to Linux desktop, not un*x

Hi gentlemen, I am an old guy, 43, but in a previous life I was sysadmin for big commercial unix like HPUX, IRIX, AIX, SunOS/Solaris, even SCO, it was command line 99% of the time, my X window was mainly for having multiple shells. I played with Linux and kernel 0.99 was my first install, on floppy,...
