17.3 kde only boots through advanced boot option

I installed 17.3 rosa beta when it first came out (from the iso). The live DVD ran fine and I was able to install by adding nomodeset to the command line. I used DDM to install the recommended nvidia driver after the first boot (see below) But booting with any of the alternatives from the default bo...

Re: The unofficial LMDE KDE UP5 [UPDATE: 16/10/2012]

Hi Schoelje You are quite right of course. It was the Wecome screen that I was trying to install the drivers from. But I thought that just ran DDM in the background - obviously not? Anyway I tried to run DDM and it also would not install the drivers - complaining with 404's and then just locking up....

Re: The unofficial LMDE KDE UP5 [UPDATE: 16/10/2012]

Schoelje Installed up5 lmde kde on friend's PC for him. All runs fine but DDM failed to install drivers fior his ATI Radeon 9200Pro. I saw one message "404 not found" and it then hung on downloading a specific file. Looks like a url has changed or is out of date? Remind me what the CLI is ...

Re: lmde up6 can't find UPS?

Sorry to not directly address the problem, but could you confirm that you mistyped UP6? I thought UP5 was the most recent. My best understanding is I DO have up6. I was running up5 and a week or so ago, I clicked the update function and got a download of hundreds of files. I asked what was going on...

lmde up6 can't find UPS?

Can anyone help me with this one? I have recently installed an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) on a PC running LMDE up6. The UPS has the facility to connect to the PC via usb. However. my box doesn't see the UPS. There is an Ubuntu software package available for the UPS which I have also installe...

Re: The unofficial LMDE KDE UP5 [UPDATE: 16/10/2012]

If nothing else is changed, an upgrade won't pose any problems when it goes official...except for arjay ;) Not sure what you mean this?? Anyway - I have a test PC where I play around (test) new/upgraded distros like this and will be happy to test up6. However I am also running up5 on my production ...

Re: The unofficial LMDE KDE UP5 [UPDATE: 16/10/2012]

Since I have been using lmde 5 kde (some months) the Update Manager has always show the system as up to date. From time to time I start it up and there are always up to 10 or so updates waiting, which i dutifully install. It all goes fine. Today I checked again and saw there seemed to be quite a few...

Re: The unofficial LMDE KDE UP5 [UPDATE: 16/10/2012]

Are you using LMDE KDE or LMDE? You're using some well known CMS like Drupal or Wordpress or? Sorry, my bad - I meant LMDE KDE - as this thread is named. As to web design software - no, I normally write my own code (HTML/CSS) for my websites, though I also do use Wordpress for blogs. Here are a cou...

Re: The unofficial LMDE KDE UP5 [UPDATE: 16/10/2012]

I'm planing to work as a web designer on Linux platform (already using linux for about 1.5 year now) and this LMDE KDE distribution seems like good (and also eye-candy) distribution. I would like to hear your advice is this distribution good (and safe) platform for that kind of use? I mean when I u...

The unofficial LMDE KDE UP5 [UPDATE: 16/10/2012]

Schoelje wrote: Btw: Why is this thread (LMDE: updates??) part of the thread "LMDE: Logitech headset no sound?"
Sorry - probably my bad. Haven't figured out how to create a new topic within the original thread. Just ignore it. We'll soon be on a new page to hide my shame.. :(

Re: LMDE: updates??

Schoelje Just a quick question - what happens, now, about updates to up5? I'm thinking about the kernel, KDE etc. Do we have to wait for up6 or what. [I am running up5 on a test PC so it doesn't matter if I bork it? UP5 was quite a large update that included upgrading the kernel and KDE. Clem told ...

Re: The unofficial LMDE KDE UP5 [UPDATE: 16/10/2012]

arjay, I really appreciate all your information and help! But I think at this point, I am convincing myself to do a total wipe of the HDD and re-install win7 and then Mint LMDE KDE Debian. In that case you could short-circuit a lot of the extra work by deleting all the linux partitions, then instal...

Re: The unofficial LMDE KDE UP5 [UPDATE: 16/10/2012]

RonnyS I was hoping that someone with more experience than me would step in and help. However, this thread is really only for testers of the up5 update and doesn't have as many visitors as a more mainstream thread. Your problem is almost certainly one about the partition table rather than LMDE or Kp...

Re: Device Driver Manager - Help needed

Schoelje Take it you are still monitoring this thread. I have been resurrecting my old media centre and put my old Nvidia FX 5200 card in it (as it is one of those rare fanless cards and therefore silent). I seem to remember me trying this card for you before and reporting that DDM did not find it. ...

Hey, I just tried installing this on my system and I already have both Win7 and Mint 13 XFCE installed. When it asked me where I wanted to install, I selected my drive. Then it said I have nothing installed on the current drive and when I went into gparted, it said the drive was unallocated! What i...

Re: Device Driver Manager - Help needed

Ooops - seems I am too late for this last test. However, there is one more thing you might want to look at in the DDM install sequence that had me well confused (see later below). 1. Anyway - JFYI, I re-installed LM 13 Maya MATE 32-bit to fresh partitions. 2. BEFORE updating anything, the Welcome Sc...
