[Solved] Re: image resize context menu

I knew the Nautilus scripts wouldn't work but I was hoping I could tweak it so it would since I couldn't find anything that would work out of the box. I tried compiling nemo-image-converter from a git repository, but I couldn't satisfy the dependencies. I don't know why I couldn't just install using...

[Solved] image resize context menu

I'm trying to get an image resizer to work in Nemo's context menu. I tried importing a script from Nautilus but it doesn't work. I suspect the correct variables are not used. Can someone suss this out for me? I can't find any documentation about Nemo variables anywhere. #!/bin/bash title="Scale imag...

[Solved] Graphic on UEFI boot menu?

Thanks for the code. I found a similar snippet that I could add to the 05_debian_theme that does the same thing. Now I have the graphic I want, the colors I want, and, using grub-mkfont, the font size I want. Win win win!!! These wiki pages helped: https://askubuntu.com/questions/433839/how-do-i-cha...

Re: Graphic on UEFI boot menu?

You are absolutely right. One is firmware, the other software. What I was really fiddling with is the /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme file. Somewhere in the docs I was reading there was a reference to /etc/grub.d/06_mint_theme. I don't have this file in my system (Tessa 19.1) and I've never seen one. If...

Re: Graphic on UEFI boot menu?

Yay! I got the graphic in the background by converting to a .png. Now I just need to change the font colors to make them more readable. CG can't seem to do that.

Re: Graphic on UEFI boot menu?

Thanks for the heads up on GC. I wasn't aware that people here avoid it like the plague. I've found it very useful in the past.

In any case I'm still curious about the contents of my EFI partition. Does that look normal to you? all those redundant files?

[Solved] Graphic on UEFI boot menu?

I've been trying to add a graphic background to my UEFI boot menu without any joy. I did it once on this laptop (Acer Aspire V3-112p) in a previous installation of Mint, but have forgotten whatever it was that made it work. I know I used Grub Customizer to do it, but now it's not working for me. All...

Re: [Solved] Network dropped connection on reset error

I guess my router is too old. The only protocol that works seems to be vers=1.0. But as you said, it shouldn't matter much because it's on a private LAN.

Re: Network dropped connection on reset error

Rene, I'd fooled around with cifs a few weeks ago and couldn't get all the syntax right, but your tutorial made a lot more sense and after I changed the IP and directory names to match my system I now have it working. Thanks. Copying works and even seems faster than when I was using gvfs in Mint 18....

[Solved] Network dropped connection on reset error

I'm using an Acer Aspire v3 112p laptop. When I try to move or copy a large file > 500K from the laptop to a HDD that's set up as a ReadyShare drive on my Netgear router I get this message: "there was an error copying the file into smb://USB_Storage/whatever -- Network dropped connection on reset." ...

customize nemo_actions

I want to know how to customize the list of compression protocols that I get when I right-click on a file/directory in nemo. I have looked for a script such as compress.nemo_actions and can't find one anywhere.

Re: can't get rid of "checking media (fail)"

I tried disabling PXE boot but then it wouldn't recognize the SSD at all.

I realize that this probably has nothing to do with Mint per se, but it does have everything to do with how to get a Linux distro to boot in UEFI mode.

can't get rid of "checking media (fail)"

I have just installed Mint 18.3 on a Acer Aspire V3 112p machine with 240G SSD. My partitions look like this from gdisk : Disk /dev/sda: 468862128 sectors, 223.6 GiB Logical sector size: 512 bytes Disk identifier (GUID): 11326D1A-4051-4529-B3D6-99D372289EDA Partition table holds up to 128 entries Fi...

Attempting UEFI boot

I have an Acer Aspire v3 112p laptop with an SSD drive installed. I initially installed Mint on this drive in Legacy mode. Then I discovered that unless I boot using UEFI I would not get the SD slot to wake up after suspend. PITA! So I have gone through the process of converting, in place, the boot ...

Re: Can't boot into Linux Mint 18.1

In my case I am running 18.3 Cinnamon and this happened to me after an update two or three days ago. Man, did it bork my system. I figured it had to do with the recent update but I couldn't remember what got updated. Thanks for figuring this one out. I really dreaded a reinstall, I mean this ain't W...

Re: customizing Grub

So I guess I wasn't clear enough in my first post. I was trying to invoke "vbeinfo" from the grub> prompt. Nothing -- blank screen. Next best thing is "hwinfo --framebuffer" which gives: [Created at bios.459] Unique ID: rdCR.pRMQb3ydj2D Hardware Class: framebuffer Model: "Intel(R) VLV Mobile/Desktop...

customizing Grub

I've been trying to customize the Grub menu screen using manual editing, grub-customizer, and theme scripts. Most of this works to some degree, however I cannot get the resolution to get beyond 640x480. vbeinfo or videoinfo just gives me a blank screen. "vbetest 640x480" is the only test mode that w...

[Solved] Re: weird message at terminal start

Found and killed it!

grep uniq ~/.*

turned out to be in .bash_aliases somehow and was invoked when launching terminal.

Re: weird message at terminal start

I'm using a fresh install of Mint 18 64-bit, Cinnamon. BTW, my /home is on a separate partition that was formerly used by Mint 17.3 32-bt XFCE. OK. So I see that uniq is part of the shell and this "command" shows up in my .bash_history:: /home/xxxx/.bash_history:echo | sort | uniq --all-repeated=sep...

weird message at terminal start

I get this message at the top of ANY terminal I open:

| sort | uniq --all-repeated=separate -w 20: command not found

Then the command prompt. I can't figure out where this is coming from or what it's referencing. Indeed the uniq command is not in my system.
