reading a corrupt hard drive

Hi all, I have just found an old laptop that I had many years ago. I think that it had Mint 9 on it. Unfortunately I could not get the laptop to boot, either from the original live CD or from a USB installation. No disk that I put into the DVD drive was recognised, it just booted into "file not foun...

Re: Folding@home-Team Linux Mint-76140

Hi all, it seems as we have gathered some new members to the the Mint Protein Folding Team. Well done everybody and welcome. We are now at position 127 and have 3 teams closing on us. If you have a decent graphics card then use that to fold on instead of the CPU as the points are far far greater. Ba...

Re: The Face of Linux Mint Support

Reading the replies I appear to be in a class of one. In the first post by Tandriash he complains of some unknown person being rude to another person, and basically preaches “be good to everyone”. A nice sentiment that obviously does not cover himself, as in his second post he calls the rude man a “...

Bombono + does it save the menu?

I have followed phd21's posts concerning making DVD's using Bombono. After some failures I have managed to make DVD's that play well in my Sony home theatre surround sound system. The only problem that I now have is that when I have made the video in Bombono and saved it, the next time I open the sa...

EdB

if OTA means a program guide, it does have one. It is the centre button down in the left hand corner. I do not know how many days in advance it shows. It looks to be 9 days.

Re: MythTV - help needed, please

EdB,

many years ago I tried to set up MythTV but had to give it up as life is to short.

I now use Kaffeine to record all of my Tv programs. It was easy to set up and gives me no problems at all.

If you do not make progress with MythTV then give Kaffeine a go.

Re: Folding@home-Team Linux Mint-76140

Hi all, I live in England in the UK, and for the past weeks the temperature has slowly gone up. The GPU has been running from 58 to 62, but today it is at 70 degrees. The temperature today is supposed to be the hottest we have had at 37 to 38 degrees. Not hot for some of you but for us in the UK it ...

Re: Kaffeine on Linux Mint19 w/ Mate minor problem!

LarryTheLamb, I live in the UK and I am using a Hauppauge TV TunerModel PCTV 292e, to view and record TV programs. It works really well and I have all of the current Freeview Tv stations available to me. It is/was very cheap, but it did offer a driver for Linux. I purchased it, downloaded and instal...

Re: Donate CPU time w/Bitcoin mining

Forn, it was suggested some time ago in the “protein folding” thread, but nothing came of the idea. If you would like to contribute some spare cpu cycles or some graphic card cycles, then you could join the Linux Mint folding team. Not only would you be contributing to a worthwhile cause, but you wo...

Re: A big THANK YOU to my Teammates!

Citizen229 ,

if "battlenut" keeps on putting in those very impressive figures, we may well get ourselves into the top 100 teams, wouldn't that be some achievement, from such a small team.

Keep up the good work.

Re: Motherboard Gigabyte A320M-S2H

Pablinux , I built a computer some time ago (a Gigabyte board, but not your one) but the point could well be relevant. The motherboard was new and had only recently been released/ I installed Mint and it did run, for seconds only. Then it would simply reboot itself and off we would go again. After m...

Re: Folding@home-Team Linux Mint-76140

Citizen229 folding has been set to maximum for as long as I can remember, but I have just set it back to medium and it certainly makes a difference to the responsiveness of the computer. I will be glad to see the back of Project 11713 as I seem to have been exclusively on this project for ever. Best...

Re: Folding@home-Team Linux Mint-76140

greerd, like you, my points per day started to decline, but that was about a month ago, long before "battlenut" joined the team. The whole computer had started to slow down and was most noticeable when opening a web browser like Firefox. I noticed that more and more doing anything else on the comput...

Re: Folding@home-Team Linux Mint-76140

greerd

I am running driver 390, which is the one that is offered. It appears to be slightly faster than on the Mint18 install. That could be down to the fact that Mint19 is now on a SSD.

I am NOT seeing any errors, it all looks to be running OK.

Re: Folding@home-Team Linux Mint-76140

Hi greerd,

that fixed it. Thank you for the help

Folding appears to be running 3 degrees C hotter and the TPF has gone down from 2 minutes 19 to 2 minutes 15.

best regards keith

p.s. I am hoping that our new top folder "battlenut" drops by and lets us know what he is folding with, curiousity.

Hi greerd.

thanks for the info.

I will finish this unit and shut down and restart Mint19 and make the changes.

Your right, it is great to see the team still going up. Congratulations to everybody.
