Re: Will Mint 19 have support for Ryzen 2200G/2400G

Thanks, still a bit too much hassle.. I know if need to make it to work is fine, but otherwise it would be nice, if it could work out of box.. sets hope in Mint 19.1 etc.. I have 2200G in my mother / my small nephews visiting gaming machines as back up OS, so i will bother only if would work out of...

Re: Buy AMD Ryzen 2200G for Linux Mint - yes or no?

If one would like to remain in the Debian sphere then Ubuntu 18.10 could be an alternative to Manjaro. Not that Manjaro is bad, it's just so buggy at times and this may put ppl off. To be honest, I'm not sure if there is a Minty alternative to the non LTS releases from Ubuntu, someone else may know...

Re: Buy AMD Ryzen 2200G for Linux Mint - yes or no?

Not only that by the chip also require the latest mesa libraries for full support. I've seen posts about the difficulties of installing those on MInt. Not that I am saying that Manjaro is better them MInt but it is a rolling distro more cutting edge which come with its benefits and issues.

Puzzling - poor Mint transfer rate through CPL modules

I have a bunch of computers in the living room and two in another room. All gigabit network. Those two are connected to the living room rooter through a TP-LINK 1Gbits CPL. They are multi-boot systems with windows 7. When I transfer a file to the living room with windows, I get 24 MB/sec as reported...

Re: Buy AMD Ryzen 2200G for Linux Mint - yes or no?

From my personal experience, Mint installation ISO come with kernel 4.15 which doesn't work with that chip. Like I post previously, I use the Manjaro 18 testing ISO which by default come with 4.19. It's all good. I am sure Mint will catch up.

Re: AMD Ryzen 3 2200G, any chance of installing Mint on that ?

Just to update on this issue. I have built a system on the 2200G and a Gigabyte X470 mb. I use the latest Manjaro "testing" ISO (18-RC) with Kernel 4.19 and it finally looks like it's working now. I found Mint pretty limited in kernel selection by default. Manjaro give you the possibility of install...

MInt 19 - standby recovery - no video

Just install Mint 19 Cinnamon, works ok but my problem is that upon standby recovery, the system wake up but the screen does not. Was working fine with 18.3. Tried open source driver and Nvidia (390) driver to the same effect. I have a dual boot with windows and the later has no problem with this. M...

Mint 19 install or migration from 18.3 prep - Timeshift not so good

This is only a suggestion but reading the posts, there seems to be a lot of people stuck with a serious problem after updating and some even needing a full re-install. It may be a good idea to take a partition/disk snapshot BEFORE attempting the update. The program I have use for a long time is Macr...

Re: AMD Ryzen 3 2200G, any chance of installing Mint on that ?

timm1, just a suggestion, while not denigrating Mint which I use extensively for it's great stability, I think that Manjaro will be a better choice for that chip at this time until 19. Mint is more cautious and use older software. Manjaro is more up to date in kernel and libraries (do all the update...

Well If we had follow your wise relative advise, we'll still be riding horses buggies instead of cars  . The fact is that Mint 18.3 with its older kernel and graphic libraries is not equip to handle that chip.

Re: AMD Ryzen 3 2200G, any chance of installing Mint on that ?

EDIT: I updated the BIOS to F22B, and now the board won't boot, it says "No bootable device found" although it does see the hard drive. I'm going to see if I can go back to the older version. Ouch ! If the BIOS installation was successful, there is rarely any reason to go back to an older one. Veri...

Re: AMD Ryzen 3 2200G, any chance of installing Mint on that ?

Good for you. If I may suggest the following to improve the chip support ; - your BIOS is quite "old" and you should update it to the latest F22b if I got your MB right. There was some improvement done on Raven Ridge. - your kernel is 4.15.0. You can bring it up to the latest official 4.15.7 with th...

Re: AMD Ryzen 3 2200G, any chance of installing Mint on that ?

The timing of this chip release is terrible for Linux, to be fair not even for manufacturers, which were caught with their pants down since a lot of AM4 motherboards on sale have not been update to handle it. Lot of returns forecast so I suspect they are scrambling to update the ones on the market. ...

Hum ok, looks like few people are running MInt on a Rysen platform, so I'll test it out myself.

There seems to be quite various MB at Newegg Canada in that price range. I notice that you have an NVME, is Mint installed on that ?

Any ryzen B350 motherboards recommended for MInt ?

I was planning to get a 2200G Ryzen cpu but there is no support for it at this time so I am going for a regular Ryzen 3 1300x. AM4 Motherboards chipsets seems to have some issues with Linux. Can you suggest a trouble free MB, B350 chipset, and around $100~150CDN which works fine with MInt (sound, us...

Re: Grub customizer fails

Not an expert but what version of GC are you running ? The current is 5.0.6. It does ask you for your user password ? Any particular reason you didn't move to Mint 18 ? May be your question is for the GC developer. I always had good success with the program except for multi-Linux boot systems which ...

Re: Regaining grub control (multiboot)

You will have to edit /etc/fstab and remove the UUID entry for the drive you have removed and then run update-grub. If necessary you can rewrite the MBR pointing to Mint using Grub-customizer. In Mint, that drive (xubuntu) is not mounted in /etc/fstab and not use in Mint. I think "saving" in grub-c...
