Re: Mint 18 and time issue (Solved)

Is there no GUI solution to this problem? Can DST not be corrected from Date & Time (without selecting an incorrect locale)? It's not very intuitive for newcomers to Linux and things like this which require editing system files and using root permissions are likely to put potential users off migrati...

Re: apt-get update fails with "E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

Pjotr, While I was composing an earlier post, it occurred to me that I may have created this build for two even older Dell laptops and hadn't tried release 16 or later. I'm currently running it from a USB memory stick but was intending installing to disk when I had time (hopefully soon) so I'll try ...

Re: apt-get update fails with "E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

Thanks again for replying, Moem. It's more about making use of the old hardware (I have two Dell Latitude D620 laptops that I'd like to reuse) than having the latest secure version of Linux. System: Host: mint Kernel: 3.2.0-23-generic i686 (32 bit, gcc: 4.6.3) Desktop: N/A Distro: Linux Mint 13 Maya...

Re: apt-get update fails with "E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

Thanks for the prompt reply, Moem. Yes, that was what I was expecting would be the response but I think that 13 is the latest release that my hardware will support. Is there any way to remove the four 'offending' repositories so that apt-get update will work? I'm not familiar with APT or Update Mana...

apt-get update fails with "E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used..." [SOLVED]

I'm running Linux Mint Release 13 (maya) 32-bit Kernel Linux 3.2.0-23-generic ('uname -a' reports 'Linux mint 3.2.0-23-generic #36-Ubuntu SMP Tue Apr 10 20:41:14 UTC 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux') on an older Dell Latitude D620 laptop. apt-get update had been working fine until last week when it be...

Re: Disable Tap-to-Click

Hmm! The idea with USB devices is that they are 'plug-and-play' or 'hotplug' devices and so dynamically configured. However, I suppose it is possible that some less well written software might base its own configuration on the system and hardware configuration at the installation time of the softwar...

Re: Save settings and data to USB memory stick from live DVD

Well, OK, I can copy the Documents and Downloads folders easily enough so I'm not sure why I mentioned them but the configuration changes affect numerous files in multiple folders and are hard to identify. Plus there are browser files etc. that I'd rather not lose. One alternative might be if I coul...

Save settings and data to USB memory stick from live DVD

I am using a laptop on which I cannot boot from a USB memory stick so I have booted from a live DVD. However, I have made some changes to the configuration and stored some data in the Documents and Downloads folders so before shutting the system down, I'd like to save settings and configuration chan...

Re: [solved] Wireless woes with 3945abg

Hi all,

I have this distracting issue on a Dell Latitude D620 which I have only just acquired and I am unfamiliar with the hardware. Can anyone tell me what WiFi hardware is built-in and which device I need to refer to with modprobe please?

Re: Touchpad tap does not work after update [Dell Latitude D

Select the Touchpad tab and there you will see the second check box is "Enable mouse clicks with touchpad". Put a check in that box and press the Close button. Presto! :-) All the best Jeffrey Bruton Well that worked for me on my Dell Latitude D620, thanks! Odd that it should not be enabled by defa...
