Re: TV as monitor problems

It worked!

The solution was (1) to fiddle with the resolution and (2) to get a cable between the audio out and the audio in, in addition to the DVI to HDMI.

I declare this solved.

Re: Best way to set up web start page?

This is a linux MINT forum, not a how to create a webpage forum. How about moving this to either the chat area or doing some research (google is your friend). Google is my friend? Really? You realize that Google isn't the default search engine in Linux Mint? There's a reason for that. Google is not...

Best way to set up web start page?

I'm using a free online service that yields a useful start page, but it seems to be going south and I have exported the data. 1. I'm thinking of something that might help me design my own html start page. 2. Then I want something in the cloud that could be reached by a browser from any computer. (I ...

Re: TV as monitor problems

I will reply from the "TV computer" as I now call it. There's another problem I just realized:

-- No audio

I used a DVI to HDMI cable without thinking of the audio.

TV as monitor problems [SOLVED]

I have recently attached an older computer I wasn't using as a dual-boot (Windows 7/Linux Mint 19.1 32-bit) machine with the idea of playing games and net surfing from my comfy chair in the living room. In Linux I managed to get the right size text and icons by simply setting font scaling (System Se...

Re: Mistake in installation ... Fixable?

Thanks. I realized there are 3 drives on that computer, not 2. The install automatically placed in Linux in the second 100GB drive. Mistake in installation ... Fixable?

I have an older, 32-bit Dell machine that already has Windows 7 with two hard drives. I intended a dual boot machine with Windows in one drive (A) and Linux Mint 19.1 in the other (B). However, I let it install by itself and it put Linux in the same drive as Windows 7. Is there a way to (a) move Lin...

Vbox shortcut in Mint 19.1 -- solution

Being lazy, I like to click on a desktop short cut to turn on a virtual machine. In Mint 19.1, to which I upgraded recently, I was getting an error that startvm is an option for the VirtualBox VM runner (VirtualBoxVM) not the VirtualBox Manager The command in the shortcut was /usr/lib/virtualbox/Vir...

Re: Firefox with rounded tabs: a solution

Just to be clear: "Firefox with rounded tabs: a solution" means making the tabs rounded , not a solution to rounded tabs (which I hate) by making their corners square, correct? (the github page also hinted at it without actually saying so). I mention that because I have a custom .css file which mes...

Firefox with rounded tabs: a solution

I found a solution for the new Firefox (I miss a lot of the old extensions, especially Tab Mix Plus). 1. Download this as a zip file: https://github.com/wilfredwee/photon-australis 2. Unzip the file at /home/user/.mozilla/firefox/profile/chrome/ 3. You'll get three flavors of a replacement chrome.cs...

I just want to thank the developers for that easy peasy upgrade using the Update Manager. Done in 15 minutes, no fuss, no muss. No money to spare this month, but maybe later.

Re: Update Manager signature error

Generally just save it in downloads and then open a terminal in that folder then type in sudo apt-key add https://www.google.com/linuxrepositories/ Just a note that sudo apt-key add yielded a hanging terminal (or maybe I'm impatient. In the link you gave I found a command line way to download and a...

Apparently Google changed key for Chrome Linux repo. You can fix it by importing new repo key from Google:

Code: Select all

https://dl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub
It wants to save a file called linux_signing_key.pub. Where should I save it and what should I do with it?

Re: FOR OLD MAC: Is LXDE Mint 12 the latest?

The best option to try is probably Lubuntu. They made a 16.04.5 release still supporting 32-bit PowerPC architecture. See their downloads page: https://lubuntu.me/downloads/. (Lubuntu is Ubuntu with LXDE.) 16.04 is supported till April 2021. Thank you, Xenopeek, and thank all of you! I think this o...
