mint-artwork-gnome contains the default wallpaper.

I'd recommend installing mint-meta-* where * is either cinnamon, mate or xfce depending on your desktop environment to fix.
Thanks. I did

Code: Select all

sudo apt install mint-meta-cinnamon
and it worked!

Re: Find the culprit: browser, machine, Mint version

Which user agent strings are either of these browsers using? In other words, how do the browsers identify themselves to the websites you visit? I used your hint and found the solution. This is what I did: I went to [url]about:config[/url] (yes, there be dragons!) and looked up useragent . I noticed...

Find the culprit: Pale Moon browser, machine, Mint version [SOLVED]

This one is a troubleshooting puzzler. PROBLEM: On my desktop, running Linux Mint 18.3, I open my browser Pale Moon 28.1.0 64-bit and Facebook complains: "For a better experience on Facebook, update your browser" (suggesting Chrome or Firefox). Other than the annoying one-line banner, there is no lo...

Re: Installing KDE Plasma on Mint 19 Tara (Cinnamon)

Don't do this at home, folks. It's much simpler to use Mint Xfce as the base then remove xfce. I'm curious about the sequence, would it be install Linux Mint 19 “Tara” Xfce Edition add KDE remove Xfcw or would the removal precede the adding? (And wouldn't the system crash without a DE?) Ok, so I'm ...

Getting the default logo wallpapers [SOLVED]

Is there an easy, one command, way to (re-)install the original wallpaper with the LM logo in Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia? I must have deleted it. I like the LM 19 logo wall paper in my laptop and want to put the LM 18 wallpaper in my desktop, which has stayed on Sylvia. Call me dull, but I'm fond of uni...

Re: Convert to epub

I am surprised that superb Calibre application did not do that for you, perhaps there is more than one way in Calibre and or LibreOffice to do that; also Calibre and LibreOffice have many extensions and plugins available. I finally found Jutoh 2, which imports flawlessly from odt and exports very c...

Re: After trying Tara ... pleas for the developers

Thank you to Smurphos and AZgl1500. I will check out your suggestions. I haven't reverted to 18.3 on the laptop.

As to flatpak, maybe I ought to try it. This is a useful discussion.

Convert to epub [SOLVED]

I am going absolutely bat-excrement crazy trying to convert my 600-page book in .odt and .docx to .epub, in order to make it available online. I have tried Calibre (using a carefully edited .html version), but it chops up the text meaninglessly. I have tried Sigil and it complains about errors I jus...

Re: After trying Tara ... pleas for the developers

You know, you don't have to opt in to every update that gets pushed out, right? One of the first things I turned off after installing Mint 19 XFCE was the automatic kernel updates. You have to expect for bugs/updates with a x.0 release; I would expect the 19.1 release to be more more stable ("stabl...

I like what's new and shiny and, natch, went and tried out Tara Cinnamon in my non-production computer, a laptop. This should do it: sed -e 's/Toc[0-9_]\+\"/Toc\"/g' There's something I'm not understanding (unstatement ha ha). This is what happened with a test file: ~ $ sed -e 's/Toc[0-9_]\+\"/Toc\"/g' sedtest1.txt Toc" Toc" Toc" ~ $ more sedtest1.txt Toc5651_4169891711" Toc5651_4169891712" Toc5651_4169891713"...

Re: Strip HTML attributions from tags

Every text editor can do that with a regular expression. But note that in your example you were stripping out more than attributes, you also removed entire <font> tags. Also, you want to preserve font styles but those are typically defined as attributes these days (styles). Still, here's an example...

Strip HTML attributions from tags

This is a general computing question. I wonder whether anyone knows any way to strip the HTML attributions from tags, without stripping out the main tags, including font styles, such as italics. In other words <p align="justify" style="text-indent: 0.2in; margin-bottom: 0.1in; font-variant: normal; ...

First, right-click and select "Desktop Settings." Go down to "Tweaks" and make sure the option "Press and hold widgets to move them and reveal their handles" is checked, then click "OK".
Sorry, but I don't see any "Tweaks" option (I'm using LM 18.3).

This sounds as if the monitor is losing signal intermittently and displaying it's oem splash.
Try unpluggining the cables at each end and reseating them. Also try wiggling the cable.
This seemed to be the problem. Thanks!
