Zero in Root filesystem?
For two days I keep getting messages that there is 0 space in the "root filesystem." I don't understand this. I have root in a partition separate from /home, but Gparted shows there is still unused space. (see graphic) Screenshot from 2023-03-27 12-24-36.png Not sure what the problem is no...

Free Ubuntu Pro?
I fled from Ubuntu when Unity was introduced. Hated it!
Now ... years later ... they're offering Ubuntu Pro free?
Anyone try it? Is it worth it?

Strategy for reorganizing files?
This is how to reorganize literally thousands (about 1.5 TB) of music, picture, and various other document files. I realize this is a matter of personal preference, but I would like to see how others do it and borrow what I feel fits my needs. First , for deduping I've downloaded all the available s...

How to change user (and home folder) name [SOLVED]
I want to be able to use my home desktop and home laptop, which are not part of a LAN, and are never on at the same time (one user: me), so I can retrieve files on the browser using the same file:/// command. How do I change the username so the home folder names match? (I've searched but the answers...

Oh, wow! Yes. I was confusing the two. Thank you!billyswong wrote: ⤴Sun Jan 08, 2023 4:29 am I don't understand why hostname matters to file:/// in browsers. The local file path cares the user home folder name but not the network hostname.

Same hostname for 2 computers? [SOLVED]
Is there any danger in giving the same hostname to my home desktop and home laptop, which are not part of a LAN, and are never on at the same time (one user, me), so I can retrieve files on the browser using the same file:/// command? I hope this is the right forum (I saw a Computer Name question he...

Re: 2 computers ... same username?
I feel if you are the only uniq user on both machines, having a different names on both machines shouldn't matter. Because for both the uid and gid should be 1000. What sort of problem do you face? Not really a *problem* but it worries me. Some file managers ask for user authorization to move or co...

Just copy using Nemo from Computer A to External Drive to Computer B. Occasionally, I use the Cloud, but I have small free subscriptions.deepakdeshp wrote: ⤴Tue Nov 29, 2022 1:49 pm What method do you use to copy from one machine to another?

2 computers ... same username? [SOLVED]
I keep copying stuff from one computer to the other (no useful LAN due to Window$ in the house). When I use a portable drive UI find that the file owner (me) is on another computer with a slightly different name (I had the notion that it would be more secure). This makes use of the file more complic...

Re: Uninstall KDE Plasma on Vanessa
Simple question: how do I uninstall KDE Plasma on Vanessa, leaving just Cinnamon? Never mind. Found the answer on https://askubuntu.com/questions/727926/how-to-remove-kde-plasma-desktop , to wit: plasma-desktop is a metapackage: one that just points to others to install. I believe the way to remove...
