Re: I Need Auto-Raise with Sloppy Focus BACK

I have to say that I found this thread searching for a way to disable raising on click. It really bugs me, I often want to be able to type on a window that is not raised. In Cinnamon 2.0.14, I can't figure out how to have focuse-follows-mouse and Alt+Click to raise. Anyway, thanks to this thread, I ...

Re: How can I change the GTK engine on Cinnamon >= 2.0?

So still a partial and experimental upgrade. Cinnamon 2.x will only be officially included in LMDE with the UP8 in a few weeks. Until then, expect a broken install. Well, yes, I know. However, I am an experienced user and have been using Linux professionally and at home for almost 15 years now so I...

Re: How can I change the GTK engine on Cinnamon >= 2.0?

At least this package is too old. Should read: $ dpkg -l | grep cinnamon-themes ii cinnamon-themes 2013.11.25 all Cinnamon themes Looks like you performed a partial Cinnamon upgrade. Thanks, I'm on LMDE, not Mint so I've been using a local repository to upgrade as described here . Not sure why the ...

Re: How can I change the GTK engine on Cinnamon >= 2.0?

That's Mint-X theme. Choose that theme in the settings and get what you want. As I said in my OP, changing any of the "Controls" options has no effect whatsoever. I don't know who told you about these engines, but that person surely led you astray by telling you either not enough or too much. Engin...

Re: How can I change the GTK engine on Cinnamon >= 2.0?

Engines are not enough. You must also install relevant themes, like "cinnamon-themes", so you should have at least Mint-X and Mint-Z themes. Most gtk2-only engines/themes are useless since Cinnamon uses gtk3 ones. There are many additional gtk2/3 themes available from Noobslab and Webupd8 PPAs. Tha...

[SOLVED] How can I change the GTK engine on Cinnamon >= 2.0?

I just upgraded to Cinnamon 2.0.14 on my LMDE (UP7) laptop and in this new version I am unable to change the GTK engine used. Menus and widgets in general look very ugly (click on the images below for a larger version): http://i.stack.imgur.com/C33hFm.png When they should look something like this: h...

Re: Cannot exit X (or restart/shutdown) when VGA monitor act

In case anyone else encounters this, LMDE Update Pack 5 came out yesterday. The problem was fixed when I updated my system. I don't know precisely which package was fixed but my current specs are: LDME, kernel 3.2.0-3-amd64 Xorg: 1.12.1.902-1 nVidia kernel: 302.17+1+2+3.2.21-2 Oh, well, all's well t...

I must be missing something obvious but I cannot find the actual HOWTO this thread seems to be in answer to. Where is the wonderful script you are all referring to? The first page of this thread, for me, is: uhm I'm not sure if and how that can be related but since I ran this script I cannot open th...

Cannot exit X when VGA monitor active [SOLVED]

I have a strange problem. If I connect an external VGA monitor to my laptop, exiting the X environment in any way crashes the computer. For example, say I am working with my two monitors (the laptop's and one connected to my VGA port) active. Hitting Ctrl+Alt+F Key should take me down to a tty. What...

Re: Multiple desktop panels (xservers?) opening with each re

Hi hardlier, I assume you are the same user that posted this question on superuser. As I said in my answer there, a lot of the options here depends on what Desktop Environment you are using. In the superuser post, the OP (you?) states it is Cinnamon. Your screen shot looks like MATE . In that case, ...

Fair enough. And that's a perfectly good reason to use mintconstructor :)

Sorry if I sounded patronising, I was just checking. Good luck with it!

Re: root subdirectory under /root

As far as I know there is no reason to have a /root/root subdirectory. /root is just the home directory ($HOME) of the root user. It does not contain any system critical files. So yes, you should be able to delete /root/root with no problems. Now, what were you doing with mintconstructor? From your ...

Re: Cairo Dock on Mint 13 Cinnamon does not stay visible.

Hi, I don't know what you mean about the Alt+Tab, that is a desktop environment feature and has nothing to do with cairo dock. Anyway, the behaviour you are describing is a feature not a bug :) Go into cairo-dock settings, under behaviour=>visibility=>change visibility options. It sounds like you ha...

In gnome 2 you could tweak the size of the panel with gconf-editor. Is this still possible? Does gconf-editor affect cinnamon?

Re: dual display monitor issues cinnamon ubuntu

Nope, but I have the same problem. I have found that everything is fine if I use the VGA monitor ONLY but I get a black screen (can't even drop to ttys with Ctrl+Alt+F keys, nor does Ctrl+Alt+Backspace have any effect) and no choice but a hard restart if I try for extended desktop. I am using the nv...

Re: Back to Linux Mint and needing help on dual monitor disp

Hi, try installing nvidia-settings:

Code: Select all

apt-get install nvidia-settings
Then open a terminal and run it as root:

Code: Select all

sudo nvidia-settings
Use it to set your dual monitor options and then "save to X configuration file".

Let me know if it works, I have all sorts of problems with my dual monitor setup.

Re: How to link to network drive?

OK, have a look at this thread. If you use the gvfs-mount command, you will need the full address of the folder you need to share. The easiest way to get this is to browse to that folder in the file manager and then hit "Ctrl+L". This will show the address of the folder being viewed. So, assuming yo...

Re: How to grant root level access to simple admin user

Hi, these are permissions you should set at the server level, meaning at whatever machine is exporting the NFS drive. Make sure that the directory/drive being exported have the right permissions. So, on the server, have a look at the file /etc/exports. On my system, my server is exporting the direct...
