Re: Recording voice with a mic or headset on Linux Mint 19.1

MrEen and phd21, Thanks very much. I just tried MrEen's suggestion of deleting the files in ~/cofig/pulse and the running 'pulseaudio -k' to no avail. I understand that enabling speaker can cause feedback to the mic. I just want to know that the mic is getting through. I think you both have given me...

Re: Recording voice with a mic or headset on Linux Mint 19.1

Hi, phd21 and MrEen, First, on your QasMixer screenshot, the mic button in the lower right is not on (pushed in). Second, I am not sure that a cellphone headset mic will work properly that requires pushing a button to talk. It could be that when the button is not pushed in the mic is not recognized....

Re: Recording voice with a mic or headset on Linux Mint 19.1

Hi, MrEen and phd21, I agree that something strange is going on. I've found out that the mic reproduces more consistently though not satisfactorily than my handset. So I'm abandoning the latter. The only pavucontrol configuration profile that will do anything is Analog Stereo Duplex, which is what h...

Re: Recording voice with a mic or headset on Linux Mint 19.1

Hi, phd21, Here's my QasMixer's sysdefault screenshot . My handset is a regular one meant for use with cellphones. I've just learned to use it as a mic by pressing a button (to talk). It seems to work with arecord except for the low volume of the recording. I've jacked up the handset's Volume also. ...

Re: Recording voice with a mic or headset on Linux Mint 19.1

Hi, phd21, I see the folowing QasMixer screen afer a reboot. qamixer-after-reboot.png My hardware or software is fickle. The following codes once in a while let me hear my voice faintly while recording from either the mic or headset, but not always. arecord -f cd - | aplay - arecord -f cd - | tee ou...

Re: Recording voice with a mic or headset on Linux Mint 19.1

I am sorry to report that I regressed to square one. I no longer hear my voice in any new recordings some of which are interestingly quiet. I get the same results now regardless of whether I use sox, arecord or audio-recorder . I've tried various levels on alsamixer's mic columns to no avail. I've e...

Re: Recording voice with a mic or headset on Linux Mint 19.1

Hi, MrEen, I ran pavucontrol with the mic or headset plugged into the front pink audio jack and selected the following control parameters as suggested by you. My new recordings don't seem to show any improvement. pavucontrol Output Devices > Port: Headphones (only choice) Input Devices> Port: Front ...

Recording voice with a mic or headset on Linux Mint 19.1

2018-12-28 I am trying to make voice recordings with a mic or headset on Linux Mint 19.1 using either Sox or Arecord. I hear only background noise from the output files of sox and arecord. I tend to think that I am doing something wrong since it's unlikely that both the mic and headset are defective...

[SOLVED] Suddenly Lost Sound on Linux Mint 19.1

2018-12-28 I suddenly lost sound on my newly installed Linux Mint 19.1 system. When I look into Control Center, I no longer see the regular Speaker Test there and nothing is muted. When I play any sound file, I hear only low-level background random noise from the speaker. Any help will be much appre...

Re: Downloading eSpeak-ng to Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia Computer

Hi, Everyone, I've just installed Linux Mint 19.1 Tessa /Desktop MATE 1.20.1 on a spare machine with a 64GB SSD and 2GB of system memory. I subsequently added eSpeak-ng rather easily via the command line and tried out various voices. I think they still sound British even though the sound quality has...

Re: Downloading eSpeak-ng to Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia Computer

Thank you both so much. Merry Xmas and Happy New Year also. I didn't realize that I had downloaded a
64-bit espeak-ng? Both systems' old espeak works.
