Re: Realtek audio driver or generic audio driver?

Requested output pasted below. I like the idea of external sound but what I really need is decent headphones. That's how I listen to music. If you have any ideas on linux-friendly headphones with surround sound and whatever, I would be much obliged. I listen mainly to classical music such as Bach an...

Re: Realtek audio driver or generic audio driver?

Linux Mint 19.1 x64 Cinnamon My Windows installation uses Realtek audio driver, but the Linux installation seems to use a general driver. If I install the Realtek driver, will I get louder volume, and more options, such as surround sound, like I have on the Windows installation? Is this advisable, ...

Make sure the mouse cursor is over the coloured zone before you drop. The X symbol next to the cursor will change to a hand indicating you can release the mouse button to drop

I tried that, they don't stay there, they immediately jump back to the left.

Re: [SOLVED] Plasma-applet-redshift-control

I went with Qredshift. At system startup I get an error message: Failed to run redshift. Trying location provider 'geoclue2' but it seems to work anyway. I tried toggling "remote location" to off, but I still get the error. I am in a standard users account, maybe that's causing some conflicts or per...

Re: PDF reader with custom zoom and thin ribbon at top

Hi shmu, You might try "Okular". Search the "Synaptic Package Manager (SPM)" for PDF and you will see other PDF applications you can install and try. Hope this helps ... So I was using Okular, until I discovered that it suffers from a bug afflicting KDE apps: it ignores printer settings such as mon...

Re: [SOLVED] Flatpak or standard installation?

Okular flatpak can't see my printers, thus cannot print. This is not the first time I have seen limited functionality in flatpak apps. Okular apt cannot print in monochrome, which is a common issue with KDE apps. LibreOffice Draw can display my problematic PDF properly, and does not have printing is...

Re: testdisk -- recover files

Okay, so apparently no one had such a problem with Testdisk. But why doesn't Mint have some kind of self-protection, so the last bytes of disk space don't get arbitrarily eaten up, thus borking the whole system? This happened to me once with Timeshift, too. If I didn't have system images, I would be...

[SOLVED] Flatpak or standard installation?

I just installed Okular, after trying to print my wife's PDF boarding pass from the default Cinnamon Document Viewer, only to discover that it fails to display the details, such as her name and flight number etc. But Okular did it like a pro, which saved me from going back to Windows... All that is ...

testdisk -- recover files

Trying to recover deleted files with testdisk, I am doing something wrong because instead of creating a mere list of files, it fills up my entire partition until I have no more disk space, and then it tells me there is no more disk space. At first I thought my mistake was choosing "Image Creation" i...

Re: Create custom iso of my Mint 19.2 installation?

You can use clonezilla to clone your Linux system, an restore to another system or to the same one in case of disaster. https://www.tecmint.com/linux-centos-ubuntu-disk-cloning-backup-using-clonezilla/amp/ Maybe I am overthinking this. :? Re: Create custom iso of my Mint 19.2 installation?

My goal is to make a live usb flash drive that contains not out-of-the box Mint, but rather an exact copy of my current installation. I have done exactly that.. CREATE CUSTOM LINUX INSTALL DISK From CURRENT INSTALLATION Back about Mar 20. Most of the instructions are found in this thread, starting ...
