Re: System Automatically Powering on when plugged in

The solution directly from Lenovo is: If the system automatically powers on when the AC power is inserted, then update to the latest BIOS version M0HKT30A (or later). Method 1 Download and update the latest BIOS version from the Lenovo Support site at the following URL: Flash BIOS update - ThinkCent...

Re: Windows - what do you use it for?

Over 20 years ago I used Quicken to manage finances and MS Works for word processor and spreadsheets. I'm way to lazy to try and switch to Linux only applications for those, and although both work OK in Wine, I've had a better experience running a Win XP virtual machine for several years now primari...

Re: how to access regular bios?

ive disabled the internal keyboard due to some issues with the track-thing. im using a usb bluetooth(i think) kb and it works properly. You may have to re-enable the internal keyboard to access the BIOS. Not sure, but it may well be that Bluetooth is not active early enough. Worth a try. Once you g...

Re: how to access regular bios?

whatever i do,i get 2 options. linux mint 21....... and advanced options for linux mint. theres no mention of bios/uefi anywhere,no matter what ido. Re: Is it just an old guy thing?

Probably overlooked my post earlier in this thread, but I'm a third that texts from my PC almost every day. It's just so much easier when I'm sitting in from of the computer anyway to do my texting on a full size keyboard. If I must text from my phone when mobile, I'll usually use voice writing.

Re: Is it just an old guy thing?

Since I too am an "old guy", using a computer for text messaging is very appealing to me. When I first installed KDE Connect a few years ago, it was for the purpose of file transfers. I soon learned that I could use it for texting too. That was a really Kool feature. I was on a KDE system ...

Re: Instructions for mate 21.1 appear to be wrong....

I'm sorry, but I haven't used the Mate edition since Mint 17 a few years ago. My guess is those instructions assume one is using the Cinnamon edition, which does indeed have the verify and USB creation tool on the right click menu. Have you tried launching the USB Image Writer tool, then verify and ...

Re: SMS via Mint

As far as I know, there is not a built-in app for this with Linux Mint. I've used KDE Connect in the past, which works OK, but did not give me a satisfying result. Lately, I've been using the Pushbullet Firefox extension with quite satisfactory results. It's not the only way of doing this, but I thi...

Re: Built-in video conferencing software?

If you were to install one of the popular video conferencing applications, such as Zoom, Skype, etc. you will then find a launcher for those applications in "All Applications" of the main menu. However, those applications do not come pre-installed with Mint.

Re: How to centre raster in a monitor

Usually there are controls on the monitor itself to adjust image position. It can probably be done in software, but I don't know how. About twenty years ago, when using Windows and the need came up for custom resolutions and timing, we used PowerStrip to accomplish the task. Maybe this tutorial can ...

Re: Seeking Linux Server Version Recommendations

...why do we "handicap" ourselves by only using a terminal? Different strokes for different folks, I suppose. My server does not have a keyboard, mouse or monitor attached, so all admin chores are performed by some means of remote access. I could do so with a GUI via a VNC session, but SS...

Re: Which Mint version did you start with?

I think I started with Linux Mint 9 with the Gnome Desktop, but didn't use it full time. Finally went Linux Mint full time with Mint 17 Mate desktop which I ran until a little past EOL, then used Mint 18 KDE until EOL for that version and switched to KDE Neon.

Re: new install old win7 machine taskbar too wide

What you are seeing is the standard setup for TVs where they overscan the video image. Set the TV to 1:1 pixel mapping, so it will display the desktop without scaling it, such that each pixel received is mapped to a single native pixel on the monitor.

Re: How many distros do you have loaded?

Chose 5 in poll. One distro per machine, I don't multi-boot any longer.

KDE Neon on main desktop
Mint Cinnamon another desktop
MX 21 on old laptop
Debian 11 on bedroom laptop
LibreElec on media room pc

These are the daily drivers. There are others that only occasionally get booted.
