Re: Great that we are back

Great that the website & forums are back and running. I knew that it was only a matter of time and that the Mint team was working hard. I have full confidence in them and hopefully this event will serve to make everything more secure now than it already were.

Re: Linux Mint used in public library

Awesome. I had proposed something similar to my local library a year ago (installing Lubuntu on the old XP computers to recycle them) but unfortunately they had to decline. The reason given was that the library personal as well as the public was more familiar with Windows and have a need for MS offi...

Re: Microsoft showcases linux based OS

MS trying to "partner" with Linux doesn't bode well for the future of open-source computing, methinks. MS is still 100% for-profit , so anything they do is motivated by $$$. It's just like the aggressive business tactic of buying out a rival competitor just for the purpose of shutting them down. Li...

Re: Any Opera Buffs Here?

I still use Opera now and then. It was great up to version 12, but now it's pretty much like every other browser. And many of the things I liked about the old Opera aren't in the newer versions. I have tried Vivaldi, but it's still a work in progress. Opera is Chromium with a different UI. I am not...

Re: Linux Mint in the Wild

I'd also argue that it is a serious thing. IIRC, Clem works solely on Mint and related things (such as MATE)--so it's not like he's a hobbist that only works on Mint in his spare time. Mint is also the single most popular Linux distro as per DistroWatch. There's a thriving community supporting it--...

Re: vboxclient the virtualbox kernel service is not running

I had this issue on Linux Mint 17.2 Xfce 32bit. Very annoying indeed. What I did is wipe the hardrive and install Linux Mint 17.1 Xfce 32 bit instead. It solved the issue. I know it may sound like a drastic solution but someone has pointed out on this thread that the popup did not show up on the 17....

Re: Crapware

***off-topic: That's the problem. Most people don't--I certainly didn't when I started Linux a year ago. :D Even now (yes, I sometimes use it), I keep a tight eye on it. One wrong tick mark and you can damage a lot! Actually, I just ran it a few minutes ago and cleaned out my thumbnail cache. When ...

Re: Crapware

Well, I saw the post and had to resist the urge to throw out bleachbit. But that is my opinion ...utterly useless. And I make no apologies for it! What's up with Bleachbit? It's the perfect tool to vacuum Firefox and Chrome as well as cleaning up old files from apps. But you have to know what you a...

Re: "Microsoft Loves Linux"

It's typical for MS: First you ignore it Then, when it doesn't go away, you despise it When it gets more and more popular, you embrace it, change it so it is yours Feels like this is happening with Linux now. Be aware of MS taking over Linux and through patents own it. It'll be the end of it. It's ...

Re: "Microsoft Loves Linux"

The new management under Satya Nadella is a lot more friendly to the open source and Linux in general. They don't come from the ''Linux = cancer'' school of thought. They realize that Microsoft can only fall into irrelevancy by not embracing these new ways and technologies. There is a demand for Lin...

Re: LinuxMint a boring OS?

If by boring your mean it works so well so you don't have to ''fix'' much of anything than I would say yes.

Linux Mint Xfce 17 is buttery smooth, stable and works as expected so that I can focus solely on what I need to do with my OS.

But why are Linux users are so reluctant to use Outlook?

I have been using it for 2 days now and I must admit it is superior to my former email provider (Yandex).

Outlook or Gmail?

HI, I am on the hunt for a new (free) email provider and currently have narrowed it down to these two. Both seems very good, but I need more perspectives. Should I relinquish MS products because I switched to Linux? Is Gmail scanning all my emails? These are some questions I wonder. In the end, whic...

Re: Help moving from XP to Mint

You best bet is with Linux Mint Xfce. Or for an even lighter desktop environment I would suggest Lubuntu. But to be honest the best thing you could do is to add a RAM chip in this machine. Depending on your model of RAM, you can find some used chips in working condition for a very low price on Ebay ...

Re: Linux Mint - 2015 year of Linux (finally) :-)

Hi Everybody,Will we see Linux Mint running on tablet hardware? Linux Mint is not designed for tablets. I don't know what are the plans but it seems that Mint's focus remains on the desktop. Contrary to Ubuntu, Mint does not have a UI meant for touchscreens. For that to happen, Cinammon would have ...

Linux Mint LXQt

Hi, Will the Linux Mint project offer a LXQt release? Let's face it, LXQt is the futur or lightweight desktop environment, and it would be a shame if the Mint project won't jump into the bandwaggon. As XFCE is slowly dying, and LXDE is merging with Razor-qt, LXQt becomes a very attractive options fo...

Re: Bad video quality

Tried to watch videos in live boot but pretty much the same. Full screen is useless, the quality is too bad due to choppiness and lags. The drivers (both open source and propietary) just don't seem to offer decent performance with my graphic card on Linux. I am really at a loss as to what to do. Wou...
