Re: LMDE 4 Live USB laptop boot issue
Thanks for reply arvy. I realize there's not much to go but I don't know what other info to give. I've checked the integrity of the iso file using sha256sum and iso works fine as a Virtualbox vm. I tried to eliminate the USB stick by testing the iso on two and installing the LM19.3 XFCE iso on one o...

LMDE 4 Live USB laptop boot issue
I downloaded the LMDE4 Cinnamon iso and installed it as a vm on my PC to test it out, my main OS is LM 19.3. I then created a live USB to test LMDE4 on my Acer laptop but it hangs during boot. As a test I created a second live USB but had the same issue. As a further test I downloaded the LM 19.3 XF...

Re: LMDE 4
@wallyUSA Thanks for pointing me to the solution and I've increased the screen res. I had tried to move/resize the window to see if there were some buttons at the foot of it but wasn't able to. Got it installing now after being able to access the buttons after resizing the screen res.

Re: LMDE 4
I run LM 19.3 as my main OS and have downloaded the LMDE4 iso to try it out as a VM in VirtualBox. When I run the LMDE installer it won't go past the Welcome screen. Has anyone else had this issue?

Re: Change colour of title bar close button background
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. The two lines in Mint-Y-Dark/metacity-1/metacity-theme-3.xml that deal with the close button are <constant name="C_button_close_bg_focused" value="gtk:custom(selected_bg_color,#92b372)" /> <constant name="C_button_close_bg_hover...

Change colour of title bar close button background [SOLVED]
I'm tweaking my desktop setup after upgrading to LM 19.2 but I'm unsure how to change one aspect of it. Below is a link to an image that shows the buttons on the focused and unfocused title bars and it is the background of the close button on the focused title bar (the blue one) that I wish to chang...

Re: Nvidia driver problem
Pedro, The first message you got was the system telling you that there wasn't an existing config file so a new one was being created. I also received that message. Unfortunately I don't have a very indepth knowledge to the internal workings of Linux Mint so I can't give you any suggestions myself bu...

Re: Nvidia driver problem
Pedro,
I have just installed LM 17.1 today on my PC and I followed these instructions here, http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/1484, to install the most recent nvidia driver. It worked perfectly for me.

Re: installing printer
Merryoakparker, I have also recently had issues installing a Brother printer on LMDE but I now have it working. I had to replace a Samsung laser printer which was working fine but then developed a fault so I bought a low cost Brother printer to replace it. To install the drivers I followed the excel...

Re: Color of selected items, GTK theme?
Fishermichael, I had exactly the same problem as yourself, I had the window and GTK+ theme I liked but wanted to change the green to blue. My setup is Cinnamon theme – dark-glass Windows theme – Shiki-Colors-Metacity Cursor theme – Adwaita Icon theme – Faenza-Blue-Dark2 GTK+ theme – Mint-X I had tri...

Re: LMDE & VirtualBox Clone Issue
Chris, Thanks for your reply. Yes, I was wanting to make a copy of my VM so that I had a backup I could revert to if I broke the other one. I have deleted the original VM saved on an ext4 partition so I am unable to try your suggestion to see if that works. As an experiment I reformatted the partiti...

LMDE & VirtualBox Clone Issue [Solved...in a way]
Last month I built myself a new PC and installed LMDE. I had been running LMDE on my old PC but decided to upgrade the hardware. For the first time ever I have formatted my partitions with ext4 and am using kernel version 2.6.32-5-amd64. I want to experiment with LMDE without breaking my main instal...

Re: Shiki-Brave Theme
E-WolfShade,
Thanks, your suggestion worked a treat, although I used the command
sudo cp -R ~/.themes/Shiki-Brave /usr/share themes
so that the folder was copied rather than moved.

Shiki-Brave Theme
I have been configuring my install of LM 7 XFCE and decided to download and install Shiki-Colors so that I could use the blue theme (Brave). I have discovered that some of the application appear different under Shiki-Colors than they do under Shiki-Mint, see the images below for one example. It make...

Re: Startup
My graphical startup also goes to text line mode at the line "reading files needed to boot". I had another Linux installation on my PC and I discovered that Mint 5 was using that swap partition and not the one I had created for it. This issue happened after I changed the swap details in fs...

Re: configuring Mint Backup
Thanks for taking the trouble to post those links. I actually had another look at the backport repo I had enabled and discovered it was the wrong one. I had initially enabled deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ elyssa backport and couldn't find the packages there. I then enabled deb http://archive.ub...

Re: configuring Mint Backup
My problem is that I can't currently see them in Synaptic Package Manager. Enabling the Backports repo, as suggested in the install instructions, hasn't worked. I presume you must have different repo's enabled and one of them is giving you the option of installing these two libraries. I just need to...

Re: configuring Mint Backup
I would like to give LuckyBackup a try but am having problems installing it. On the installation instruction web page, http://luckybackup.sourceforge.net/install.html, it says that libqtcore4 and libqtgui4 are required as dependencies and for Ubuntu users these can be found in the backports repo. I ...

Re: Mint 6 Xfce RC1 errors
FRefugee, I am glad that the instructions I posted worked for you. One thing I find a bit strange is when I was setting up my wireless I tried using "modprobe ath5k" but got an error saying something like the module was missing. I then tried "modprobe ath9k" and it executed fine,...
