Kind of [Solved] mate-sensors-applet-ati

Hi, when upgrading Mint 17.2 Mate went from 1.8 to 1.10.1 and the ATI GPU icon and temperature was no longer in Mates sensors applet. With some research (copying the 1.8 libaticonfig.so to the appropriate place made it work again) I found a solution. With the upgrade to Mate 1.10.4 the Icon again di...

Re: Cannot Mount Internal SATA Drive

Hi, After rebooting, the drive showed 232 GB unallocated space. I was able to create a primary partition in the unallocated space. The drive does show up under Mint, but Mint still will not give me permission to write to the drive. if it shows up in Mint issue in a terminal "ls -la /media/terry". th...

Re: Update manager enhancement

Hi, The local repository information should be updated before playing around with updates to prevent partial upgrades. This is one (of a few) reason(s) why MintUpdate checks the repositories before showing you the updates. I do not know how other users handle that, but I have reasons to want to know...

mdm gtk features

Hi,

I am missing some gtk features in MDM:

1. theme selection in the MDM configuration or
2. "AllowGtkThemeChange=true" activated in defaults.conf
3. selection with or without user list.

thanks

Multicolor artwork

Hi,

I do not like green and green will not fit into the design of many desktops. The KDE Version of Mint has blue Artwork. That would make life easier.

So it would be great to have packages like

Mint Artwork green
Mint Artwork blue
Mint Artwork red
Mint Artwork ...

Thanks Tom

Update manager enhancement

Hi, there are several things about the update management that I do not like. 1. I do not know if the package information is being fetched every time the computer is started (in case of trouble shooting more than once a minute). 2. A clear indication when the last time the package information was fet...

Re: Username is missing in Users and Groups and Login Screen

Hi, The LH article above suggested this might happen and provided a fix...but it didn't work. this is because it was written for Ubuntu. How many users are we talking about here? Only one? To make this or these user/s appear in the user list - you have Mint with Mate? You need to edit /etc/mdm/mdm.c...

Re: Select, Copy, and Paste Text from a PDF as Editable Text

Hi, if a pdf file does not contain text but only graphics (for example a scanned text document) then you cannot extract the text. You need an OCR application for that. If a pdf file was created by an application (eg pdf printer) then you can extract the text. This is a pdf file that contains text: h...

Re: What is your opinion about SSD?

Hi, I usually have a 16GB Partition, easy to copy to memory sticks and the like (with tune2fs it is possible to change the UUID of a drive so these copies can be bootable). 3 years ago I bought a Kingston 16GB SSD, copied the system partition to that drive and used it (data like photos, videos, musi...

Hello from Vienna, Austria

Hi, I started working as a technician in a local computer store in 1987 (DOS). Started using Unix in about 1994 with NextStep 386 (when I was also in the Beta program of WinNT3.1). I worked with several Worktations (Sparc, M68K, PA Risc, MIPS, Alpha, ...) and stopped using Windows around 1997 (I lat...
