Mint Photographers recommend a monitor for RAW

Hi, I'm just getting into this--I am a complete novice but enjoying photography. I am currently using a crop sensor camera but hopefully I will have a 5D mk III before summer. I have been using rawtherapee and a LG monitor at 1920x1280. I am wondering if I should consider a higher resolution monitor...

Re: Compiz, VLC and MATE panels

Hi, I have LM19, with Compiz (I had to use it to solve tearing problems). When VLC is in fullscreen mode, if I move the mouse, the control bar appears BUT the MATE-panel appears in the same time. I can't have VLC in fullscreen AND use the control bar WITHOUT the mate-panel coming in front of the vi...

Naw--it's all good.
Back up your stuff and plan for a fresh new Mint install, personally I would not carry any config files forward from the old install.
Make this a fresh beginning and keep a log of everything you add or modify ongoing.

Re: My Mint crashes severely

In the cases of system crash instead of holding down the power button to do a hard shutdown try this: Hold down the Alt key and continue holding while entering these keys: press and release PrtScrn then type reisub That will provide a more graceful power-down than a hard shutdown. But the ultimate g...

Rock and a hard-place.
It's difficult to advise, hope you understand.
There are ways to erase a drive leaving very little chance of recovery.
Search that---
then reinstall the original os from the recovery files you have. Probably 99.x% safe.

Just me--If the drive once stored personal/financial information I would not allow it in possession of a stranger.

Only you can decide

Re: Any full-fledged backup techniques to restore the system after it returns from repair?

fwiw: No--I perceive no naivity. I completely erase it and then set it factory data, right? It gets down to 'who do you trust' Probably the service center agent is ok--perhaps he is a malicious actor, perhaps data on the hd may still be lingering-- You have to ask yourself one question--do I feel lu...

This needs to be restated:
Use extreme caution when returning a drive that was even once used for personal files, accounts, log-ins, etc. You get the idea

Re: Any full-fledged backup techniques to restore the system after it returns from repair?

@Mintymandy34 I suggest (if you have the resources) reinstall the Win partitions before return to service center. I've a portable Windows Recovery Drive, I can set it exactly like they gave me the first time. Thanks for the suggestion. :) That is what I would do. Otherwise the service center may de...

Re: Any full-fledged backup techniques to restore the system after it returns from repair?

Hard drives are relatively cheap... take it out and put it in your sock drawer. ++1 for the 'sock-drawer'. The anology here is preserving a factory fresh drive, replacing it immediately with one of your own. This way if something goes amiss you can pop the original back in for warranty purposes. Yo...

Re: Any full-fledged backup techniques to restore the system after it returns from repair?

Hard drives are relatively cheap... take it out and put it in your sock drawer. Let them rebuild the machine with a new one, possibly a silicon drive if you have a bit of spare cash. Personally I use a UK£20 USB3 stick with LMDE3 installed. When it's full I just get a new one and the old drive goes...

Thank you. Yeah, I did a fresh install/upgrade.
Sometimes the nuclear option is indicated though.
I suggest keeping a log of system changes as you make them on a fresh install
including tweaks.
This will help getting back to where you were before the reinstall event

Re: Black Screen on Boot

Most likely you will need to enter your bios and make sure that the drive to which you installed Mint is at
the top of the boot order. Or did you specify a special location for grub bootloader when you installed?
