Got it Flemur, thanks.
Hey Wompoo,
You could also check out some ham radio applications for audio and notch filters.
You can find some DSP apps (digital signal processing) that may br tailorable to your needs.
Downside--these are mostly written for Windows though.

Re: Audio notch filter for Linux Mint.

I think you can do this with Audacity.
Use the Effect selection in the toolbar and then select Equalization.
There you can shape the bandpass to notch certain frequencies.

Re: What do the "/" and "/home" mean?

Here's an even 'newbier' question. I have struggled and now understand how to make partitions. I'm now wondering why they are necessary. 1. I have been told that one can only put 1 o/s on a usb stick because the computer will default to the first partition anyway. 2. Can one password protect the in...

Re: Green screen at logout

Mint 19 (with all updates) Older GEForce GTX 650 card with the latest Nvidia driver 430.28 When I log out, the display turns a bright green, and I have to restart the computer to get it to straiten out. Most of the time things like are a driver issue. I tried three different drivers, all worked but...

Re: Firefox Vulnerable?

Best to keep FF updated by clicking the "hamburger" menu icon in the upper left of the toolbar. Select "Help" then select "About Firefox"
That should check for updates. FF patches vulnerabilities often.

This is what I see each time UM opens: UM.jpg Then the list gets populated. UM Preferences/Options auto-refresh is not enabled. Yes, but if you check the log view then you should see something like this: 06.18 20:00 + Launching Update Manager 06.18 20:00 + AutomaticRefreshThread started 06.18 20:00...

Re: gm10's Linux Mint Tools PPA

I am seeing available updates as soon as I open UM--without refresh and without running apt update Not sure what to tell you except that I can guarantee that the app doesn't do a remote refresh upon launch, ever, so something must have done it before you launched it. The only other thing in mintupd...

The customizations you are mentioning would be contained in hidden configuration files in the /home/username directory. These can be viewed by navigating to that directory and pressing Ctrl+h. The hidden config files will be preceeded with a . (example .config or .mozilla).I would start by copy/past...

Re: Ride-on mower battery...

It sounds like the battery will not deliver the cranking amps. Measure the voltage while
cranking. The voltage is probably dropping significantly under starter load.

Re: gm10's Linux Mint Tools PPA

Hello @gm10,
a point of curiosity--with the gm10 ppa updates Mint 19.1 MATE UM now ignores the preference settings for auto-refresh and refreshes the list of updates on it's own.
I prefer to refresh the list manually. How can I revert this?

Re: Disappearing windows in MATE ;(

This sounds like you have accidentally deleted the panel app "Windows List"
Right click an empty spot on the panel and choose "Add to Panel"
Scroll down that list to find Windows List, highlight that, and click the "Add"
button below.

I really enjoy reading threads like this because I see a part of myself here--searching for the holy grail.
I'm guessing a dozen or more distros just didn't fit the bill and I am still using Mint as my mainstay, goto,
trusted, main reliable system. eos
