Re: Mint16 Cinnamon 64 autologin

I solved this problem myself, no thanks to this less-than-helpful forum. Loading the 319 driver really messed me up. I wanted to add a video card because I was not satisfied with video playback from the integrated intel hardware. I did not know that VLC had a GPU accelerated decoding setting which i...

Re: cant get windows vista in to grub

If Vista is the first drive in boot order, then make sure your computer boots to Vista. You have to have a valid bootloader for this drive. Then Make the linux drive the 1st in the boot order. Boot to linux and run sudo update-grub in terminal The computer will boot to Grub with Linux as the default...

Looks like you have a very powerful machine. Can you do Mint16 Cinnamon64 install and switch to the nVidia 610?

Re: Petra won't mount but install was successful?

Welcome to the world on Mint. The first thing is to decide what would be the best OS for your hardware to run on. You've got a 64bit laptop with 2GB of ram and 128MB of video ram. I don't think that's enough for Cinnamon, so I'd recommend Mint16 Mate64. Go to the Mint site, download the OS, burn it ...

Re: Hello Linux Bye Windows

You have powerful 64bit system. You can load Mint16 Cinnamon64 on your hdd. Then you can load virtualbox to run inside Mint If you've an extra 10GB of space (see System Monitor File Systems) you can install virtualbox from Oracle. It is free. Make a VM folder in Home or wherever you found that free ...

Hi Lee, there is no system wallpaper that I am aware of.
Right after my install, I chose a new wallpaper and it stays.
I do copy my wallpaper to pictures
and then I rt click on the screen
Change desktop background.
Add
go find it in pictures
then scroll down and select it.

Re: Hello Linux Bye Windows

Your windows game is going to run the best in windows. If you succeed in loading Wine or Virtual box, you will still be sharing the system resources of your machine with the host OS. You need to do a dual boot. Load XP first for the windows games Load a Linux distro that is appropriate for your hard...

Re: Installing Mint 16 without CD/DVD or USB

You must have a USB port on that thing.
If someone brought this to me, and it had a USB port,
I'd use my external USB drive to load a new OS.
If I didn't have an external USB drive, I wouldn't spend the money.

Re: updating bios without windows

First, I'd like to know if I could run that net book without the battery.
If so, and I wanted to run it off the battery, I'd buy a new battery.
If so, and I didn't need the battery, I'd run it off the power cord.

Re: dpkg error prevents installs/updates

My guess is that you need at least 256MB of PCI express video ram to run Mate.
And AGP is so old.
Realistically, the older the hardware, it's just not going to support the newer software.
It would be the same as trying to load Win7 on a Win98 box. No way.

Re: Nouveau still doesn't work after a couple of years

The biggest problem I've seen with drivers is nVidia. The linux community is plagued with nVidia issues. Last year, Linus publicly gave the finger to the nVidia corporation. They won't release their source code because it's more important to protect their patents than for their linux users to have v...
