Re: JAVA

Hi chazb, There are two versions of Java, open source (openJDK) and Oracle's Java. I always install the Java 8 runtime for both of these and I make the open source Java the default unless I have an application that I must use that requires Oracle's Java. You can make whichever Java runtime you want ...

Re: Open VPN auto reconnect

Hi timhepworth, Did you restart or at least logout and back in after installing the applet? I only use that applet when I am in Linux Mint Cinnamon as a VPN status indicator. My VPN connection rarely disconnects. From my previous reply's link. ubuntu gnome - Auto reconnect to VPN on disconnect? - As...

Re: Question about "transmission", the bit torrent

Hi natalia, I do not see anything wrong with the results of the "inxi -Fxzd" console terminal command, so that is a good thing. You can export your music from iTunes or save them as another music file format to your local drive and be able to use them in Linux Mint. Another option is on any existing...

Re: install mint to flash drive instead of HDD

Hi Kruel14u, I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well. It is really easy to install Linux Mint to a USB Stick or a USB drive. Boot to the live installation version of Linux Mint on a DVD or USB stick, start the installation and when you get to destinatio...

Re: Is there an app in the Linux Mint world that would let me....

Hi Palladini, If it were me, I would get a stand-alone DVR (Option A. AVerMedia EzRecorder) instead of a video capture card for your computer and use that because it is the easiest and best option. If the news broadcasts are also on the Internet, then you might also be able to use "youtube-dl" or on...

Re: Is there an app in the Linux Mint world that would let me....

Hi Palladini, Sounds like you are trying to record your cable TV shows. Most cable companies and TV providers have a DVR / PVR (Digital Video Recorder) as part of their service or as an option. A.) There are stand-alone video recorders that can do this available on Amazon.com and places like that. M...

Re: Han anybody managed to install a half decent equalizer?

Hi Ottavio, There are at least 3 different "system-wide" Linux equalizers available and all have worked for me. And, a lot of applications have their own equalizers built-in as well. You might consider removing the user configuration for pulse audio which is safe to do and will be recreated after re...

Hi RayJ0G, Just noticed that your reply was not answered, sorry about that. I no longer use MS Windows since I can do everything I used to do in MS Windows in my Linux Mint system. But, I have an NTFS (MS Windows files system) on a drive partition and on my USB backup drives for compatibility with o...

Hi natalia, I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well. It would help to know more about your system setup. Hi DarkCerberus, Thank you for sharing this with everyone. With either of these applications, I always recommend installing them fro...

Hi overkill22, Yes, I think you pointed this out earlier, it was too expensive for my budget at that time. I will probably give it a try. Do you have one? If yes, could you post a video sample? No, I do not have one of these stand-alone VHS to digital converters although I would love one. It has a 4...

Re: Converting VHS to digital

Hi overkill22, That is a bummer, perhaps you can send it back for a refund because Amazon.com is great with that? I would highly recommend getting a device like the one below that does not even require a computer to convert VHS and other video sources with video and audio cables (camcorders, etc...)...
