Re: Just want to be a Linux Power User

Hi geekwannabe, You are welcome... I do not see anything wrong with the results of the "inxi -Fxzd" console terminal command, so that is a good thing. But, your system is fairly old and very limited with only 1gb of system memory (ram). Choosing Linux Mint Xfce for this computer was a good idea. If ...

Re: Virus intrusion

Hi teguh_broadway, & Everyone Else, I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well. I too would like to see the report from your BitDefender's scan, and or printscreens of it. I also installed and ran BitDefender 7.7 on my system, see results below. It did not...

Re: Show all file sizes in kB?

Hi Subhuti, Welcome to the wonderful world of Linux Mint and its excellent forum! It would help to know more about your system setup. If you run " inxi -Fxzd " from the console terminal prompt, highlight the results, copy and paste them back here, that should provide enough information. There are al...

Re: Mint 17 Cinnamon: Totem & VLC: Can't get either to display subtitles

Hi tinker123, I just read your post and some of the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well. +1 Rename the subtitle files from "something.srd" to "something .srt ", and it does help if they have the same name as the video file. +1 I would not recommend playing the videos as a super ...

Re: Trouble installing a tar.gz program

Hi Termy, RunAmuck, and Everyone Else, I would agree that compiling software from source code is certainly not for newbies (new users of Linux or any OS) and that most archive files (.tar.gz) from software developers usually do require compiling before installing or working. I have noticed over the ...

Re: Trouble installing a tar.gz program

Hi Everyone, It seems like some of you are confused as to what the original poster wants. There are two really nice diving applications "subsurface" and "v-planner". "v-planner" is a self-contained archive file, that all you have to do is extract the archive file, and it is ready to run as "jimallyn...

Re: Un-met dependancies in repos

Hi Cinammon32,

You are welcome...

What version of KDE are you running, 17.x or 18.x?

I have Stellarium and Kstars working well in both my KDE systems (17.3 and 18.2).

I never used "klinkstatus" before, but it installed fine in my Linux Mint 18.2 system

"klinkstatus" is a KDE application, are you using KDE? If not you may have to install "kde-runtime" first.

Hope this helps ...

Hi Cinammon32, I just read your post and the good replies to it. Re: Krunner Crashes

Hi banjo, I just ran the excellent "Krunner" in my Linux Mint KDE 18.2 system (which can be run from the menu key search box, right-clicking the desktop, or "Alt+F2"), and it worked well. Do you have the "Search" options enabled in the System Settings menu, might require rebooting after enabling? Ho...

Re: [MS Office] best way to run this windows suite in Linux Mint?

Hi bulevardi, In the article, I came up with this phrase: "You can use this legal VM with Windows 7 for 90 days...", and that did stop me reading the rest, where is told that you can extend the activation 5 times... and then reïnstall. Installing MS Windows as a virtual machine file within Virtualbo...

Re: [MS Office] best way to run this windows suite in Linux Mint?

Hi bulevardi, The thing is that I'm not so familiar with VirtualBox/Machines. Is there a Windows version included when installing this Virtualbox? Because that's just the reason why I'm using Linux now: because my official Windows version doesn't want to reïnstall anymore.Otherwise, I had installed ...

Hi earthlingkc, I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well. Google does have an archiving feature in it settings. Re: USB drive with aac in Sony car stereo

HI ganamant, That's an older car stereo, so it may only accept certain bit rates for certain music (audio) file types, like 128 vs 320. If you can find the manual for that make and model car stereo, it should have the information on what file type and bitratres are accepted. There are a few great mu...
