Re: Night Mode

There is at least one other application that does the same thing, called Redshift. Thanks for the tip. I am now running it. It would be nice if it had a GUI configuration rather than command line. I came across this while researching, might be worth a look as offers GUI. https://cinnamon-spices.lin...

Re: Night Mode

Is this function standard on latest versions of Mint?

If not, can you not just change the hue to remove blue from spectrum - thanks

Re: New 2tb external hard drive not recognized

Can Linux see a drive of that size without being formatted? Remember reading something on particular file systems for larger drives although this may be just for Windows. To explain: A drive won't mount into an operating system without being partitioned and formatted suitably for that operating sys...

Re: Access to encrypted drive

it's rather odd, that either cable had some broken wires: - - was there anything that was rubbing on them ?. https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=315207 Its probably a combo of factors (my fault). SSD's are pretty light so skipped proper mounting, instead left them resting on cabin...

Re: Access to encrypted drive

Thanks for the reply. By chance I found the problem which was really unexpected, both the master and slave SATA cables had broken wires off of each right up close to the black connector (master just the black wire, slave red and black). It looks as though these cables come direct from the power sour...

Re: Access to encrypted drive

Giving this some thought, i wonder if its because the files are stored in the 'home' directory which requires its own password? This would make sense as you have to mount the drive first then it progresses to loin screen, is there anyway to prompt for a password when accessed from a secondary device...

Re: Mint mate suddenly stops for a period of time

I have very similar problem, Linux freezes but still you can hear video playing in the background. It seems to be related mainly to read/write activities as this is the first thing to stop, unfreezing can be problematic and can sometimes need a forced shutdown which further adds to problems. Trying ...

[SOLVED} Access to encrypted drive

Hello good folks, This is not a big problem but if there is a better or simpler way it would be great to know. Basically I have Mint Cinnamon 19.1 running on a fairly old desktop PC with an added SSD for hard drive. Occasionally it will freeze during various file operations which I have managed to s...

Okay, that explains the lack of nudges for updates, oddly enough I came across my original thread mentioned above.

I'll mark both as [SOLVED]

Re: Mint updates

Okay, had a bit of time to explore the update manager option. Current status, Mint update 5.4.7 Mint info 1.1.4 Those are the two updates at first glance, clicking refresh adds pages. It looks like nothing has been updated since original install, the only prompt now showing is for TimeLine backup wh...

Re: [SOLVED] Mint updates

No need to get aggressive over update policies. Sorry, everyone, if I have contributed to a somewhat uneasy atmosphere. Seems that I had misinterpreted _tab's informational questions as requests to implement something which on Mint has been the default behaviour for ages. My replies may indeed have...

Re: Mint updates

. Not sure that I mentioned it was urgent, surely the comment that Linux machines are secondary suggests not. Bear in mind my original introduction regarding Windows, this was delving into the registry making various changes to no avail, just wanted an overview to make sure not doing the same thing...

Re: Mint updates

Re: Mint updates

I would like to understand the update process a little better with a view to migrating over from Windows completely. Fair enough. What would you like to know? In essence, does it operate similar to Windows or is there a degree of control as to when it searches and/or pulls down files. Ideally a man...

[SOLVED] Re: Installation of Tor browser

Thanks for the reply trytip. I have used TOR on/off for years but never enough to justify building from scratch. Previous install ran from command line without issue until I upgraded Mint (that must be 18 months ago which gives an idea how infrequent its used). The other option was to purchase a VPN...
