Re: Booting from a external HDD (w/o dualboot!)

I googled a lot on that subject and seems like a lot of people have the problem that because of UEFI when you install grub on a external hard drive the PC won't boot unless the drive is plugged in. Of course it might just be a misunderstanding on my part (not a native english speaker) but I can't af...

Booting from a external HDD (w/o dualboot!)

I have Mint already installed on my old netbook and now I finally decided to use it on my work laptop as well. About two weeks ago I asked a similar question just that time I wanted to create a dualboot system. This was the page I was refered to by gold_finger: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic....

Customising Mint [SOLVED]

I moved this question here because nobody is answering in the Themes forum so I guess it has to be a stupid question. I found some really great themes on deviantart I searched in the categories and when I came to Desktop Environment I chose GNOME. But that's where my confusion starts. The next sub-c...

Re: What NOT to do? As in keeping my hands away.

Would it be safe for my computer if I installed Mint on an external HDD for experiments? Or should I stick with VBox?

What NOT to do? As in keeping my hands away.

Now that I've finally installed Mint, played around with it and customized it a little I was wondering if there are things I should not touch. For example I was looking for some tool that would allow me to change GTK or GNOME Shell themes and came across the GNOME Tweak Tool. I wasn't sure if it was...

Hello from Austria!

Hi guys! After inquiring a few thing in this awesome forum I finally made the jump to Linux and as some of you suggested I made it my primary OS. A little bit about myself: I am 20 and currently studying Robotics Engineering but after playing around with Mint I decided to also get an degree in Compu...

Re: I wanna LEARN EVERYTHING about Linux! (SOLVED, kind of)

If you really want to learn all that there is to know about Linux than Mint isn't for you. It's easy and just works. (Which is great for those of us who already know a lot about Linux!) :D I would recommend something like Arch, or Gentoo to get your feet wet. Good luck! Next semester we'll be worki...

I wanna LEARN EVERYTHING about Linux! (SOLVED, kind of)

Ok first of all, I am aware that it's probably impossible to learn "everything" about Linux. That was just to get your attention. I'm falling more and more in love with it. It's like waking up one day to find a whole other world just waiting to be explored. So I decided to go on an adventure and lea...

Mint on external HDD (Solved)

Hi guys! I have been testing Mint 17.1 Cinnamon for a few weeks and I am loving it so far. I like how customisable Linux is. I'd like to install it on an external hard drive (which I made from an old internal HDD using an enclosure) because I am not getting a "Install alongside Windows 8" option and...

Re: File Errors. Also USB installation or dual boot?

I figured out why the LiveCDs did not work, I was booting the wrong way. With a Lenovo PC you have to press the "Novo"-button to get to the boot menu. So I made a LiveCD for Mint it did not show up in the boot menu. Did the same thing with the Ubuntu LivCD I made a few weeks back and iw worked fine ...

Re: File Errors. Also USB installation or dual boot?

@gold_finger I have tried made the LiveUSB using Unetbootin, Universal USB Installer and LiveLinux USB Creator. Everytimes there are at least 4 errors. And I did what you told me. I couldn't finda program called Drive Manager but something similiar (forgot what it was called), it was in the System S...

Re: File Errors. Also USB installation or dual boot?

md5sum are the same and so something must have gone wrong when creating the LiveUSB. So I made a new one and I did the integrity check again and now it shows me that there 5 errors. :? Found 4 of them, those files are missing: ./isolinux/memtest ./isolinux/splash.jpg ./isolinux/isolinux.cfg ./isolin...

Re: File Errors. Also USB installation or dual boot?

I have the Lenovo G510 with EFI.
It was the integrity check that showed those 4 errors.
Are md5sum, sha1sum and scha256sum files in the *.iso ?

File Errors. Also USB installation or dual boot?

Hi guys! I've downloaded Mint 13 "Maya" Cinnnamon, Mate and KDE (is the only difference really just the UI?). My computer wouldn't boot the LiveCD so I used a USB stick and it worked but when I moved the cursor it would kinda flash (disappear and reappear really fast) so checked the USB and I got 4 ...
