Re: How to boot LMDE4 installation image from HDD

by NuBz » Mon Feb 24, 2020 1:45 pm Actually this is incorrect. Please DIY and then say it again. Please place the ISO image in the root HDD partition, for eg. sda1, boot it into the live session (as described in the 1st message of this post) and try access or even 'see' that original (sda1) partiti...

Re: How to boot LMDE4 installation image from HDD

by axisofevil » Sun Feb 23, 2020 5:56 pm This is obviously not applicable if you install to disk. That’s a very interesting point. Indeed, you can't access original root partition from live session but you can install OS on the same disk on another partition. Just did that. During installation I po...

How to boot LMDE4 installation image from HDD

The following instructions are for booting with Grub2 the image of LMDE4 BETA from the HDD. First download LMDE4 iso image file and copy it to /boot/iso/ (first mkdir /boot/iso/ ) Then insert the code at the end of the /etc/grub.d/40_custom file and execute sudo update-grub after that. Be sure to in...

Re: Speed, Wow: Mint 19.3 Cinnamon vs Ubuntu Mate 19.10

We can estimate and compare UI responsiveness of Mint and other OS with GtkPerf . I had the difference less then 10 per cent for Cinnamon 19.3 and Xubuntu 19.10 (see below). It is obvious that there is no sense to perform this test with the very old video card. Second pair of tests was completed wit...

suppose what Pjtor suggested after is kind of like all of those-in-one It's different, my list is a first step to compile the latest ffmpeg . Here is a degree of mint-meta-codecs integration in the system: https://www.linuxmintusers.de/index.php?PHPSESSID=cfcb0d327080cda760ea084bb35b1d5a&action=wik...

Re: How to check what Codecs are installed in Mint?

I 'think' installing these has produced smoother video playback in youtube, is that likely? Each youtube video has its particular audio+video codec, so its question of yes or no, not smoother. You can install or compile such codecs (if it is install already you will get "... is already the newest v...

Re: Speed, Wow: Mint 19.3 Cinnamon vs Ubuntu Mate 19.10

Ubuntu Mate 19.10 blows the doors off Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon I have Mint Cinnamon 19.3 and Ubuntu 19.10 -based OSes both installed on the same PC with 2 GB RAM. Both of them are working fine for its hardware. No noticeable difference between both OSes. Both OSes are set with the same services, sw...

Re: Linux Mint distribution that supports both Cinnamon and Xfce..?

It looks bad, feels bad and works bad. I have Mint Cinnamon with added to it for some reason XFCE DE. It looks, feels and works beautifully. This XFCE session is as customizable as the original XFCE installation and it took me 5 minutes to get to the usual setup. I have another system with MINT XFC...

PPA = unit193/encryption ... not isn't :) Though unit193 is a well known developer, I agree with the Veracrypt author approach: https://sourceforge.net/p/veracrypt/discussion/general/thread/10a63bd1/#c43f Anyway this PPA seems to be very ...

Re: Live USB with Data partition

Does it supports LUKS encryption ? Can any partition encrypted with AntiX can be decrypted with Mint ? No sense to messing around with antyX/MX if you want to stay with Mint. You can try unetbootin (unetbootin - 677-1~bionic1) one more time. Clear USB and create on it 3 GB ext4 empty partition Star...

Re: Live USB with Data partition

If you need live OS with encrypted persistence, there is a practical ready-made solution: https://tails.boum.org/doc/first_steps/persistence/index.en.html I tried it several times, and it works. Though antiX live-usb is more robust and customizable thing ( MX Linux live USB can be customized as need...

Re: How to choose where grub gets installed?

Is there a way to check this and if so can I remove them? Simply boot in your working Linux system and re-install grub from inside: sudo grub-install /dev/sdX for example sudo grub-install /dev/sdd you can check drive letter with sudo blkid Do not forget to choose correct HDD priority in your BIOS/...

Just to let you know, I installed gm10's Linux Mint Tools in Xubuntu 19.10. So far it's working fine! For installation were used Pjotr's notes at Easy Linux Tips Project , 'dynamic' version (without Timeshift). Thank you for this amazing project! You can download and install latest original pt-Pt Firefox from here: https://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-esr-latest&os=linux64&lang=pt-PT Currently it's pointed to this directory: https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/...

Re: [SOLVED] How to stop GnuGP from caching the 'secret key' ?

Command gpgconf --kill gpg-agent kills gpg-agent in order to force this component reloading to activate new settings immediately (see man gpgconf). Otherwise you need to restart your system.

Re: [SOLVED] How to stop GnuGP from caching the 'secret key' ?

@ bendipa The above conversion had been focused on LM17 with LM18 in the mix. There were GnuPG 1.x and GnuPG 2.1 installed simultaneously in some systems and GPG infrastructure may differ. So the above conversation was intentionally redundant for practical purposes and it seems that it helped OP. So...
