Re: Suspend /Hibernate - Why do people use it?

I don't like hibernation as well but if a system is encrypted its LUKS keys are left in the open both in suspend-to-ram and screen lock state. So hibernation with encrypted swap may be a solution to the problem.

Re: test notifications always in another language

from Wikipedia: In publishing and graphic design, Lorem ipsum (/ˌlɔː.rəm ˈɪp.səm/) is a placeholder text commonly used to demonstrate the visual form of a document or a typeface without relying on meaningful content. Additional efforts were made to corrupt the original text " with words altered...

Re: Backing up and reinstalling setup from an encrypted drive

OP didn't provided any information on their setup, space information or the kind of settings they want to duplicate - userspace or system. Suppose it's a default Ubuntu/LM FDE with with LVM on LUKS - it is possible to shrink LVM partitions if calculated new system size will be satisfactory for cloni...

Re: Is Ventoy really safe

I think Ventoy enrolls its own certificate, adding it to the database, not replacing anything. Otherwise you can't use Ventoy with secure boot enabled. You can obviously reject this operation and (temporarily) switch off secure boot . On the other hand you need to trust them or any other such projec...

At least there was a way to "inject" a new superuser account via the USB ports using sophisticated tool while the system is still booted, i do not see how this could actually be a "security issue". You may think so, but on behalf someone who may read the above, it is the same as...

Re: How to enable Full Disk Encryption on Linux Mint 21.3 Cinnamon

Encrypting a partition destroys all already existing on it data, so you can't re-encrypt your root partition. You may create new encrypted system alongside existing one and migrate to it. By default Linux Mint installer erases the disk while creating new FDE system so you need to use custom installa...

If the original question is about creating new partitions with GParted owned by user then it's a bad idea. For example, think about created new system partitions owned by user. If such partitions will be created with changed defaults you need to change ownership in other directions OR in case not do...

you can mount them with crypttab/fstab the usual way and call them as you wish but you need to enter their passphrases during boot.

WARNING: I don't know whether the above instruction is safe for full-disk encrypted installation or not. I may add to billyswong's warning that tampering with Plymouth on FDE system may render it not bootable and quite complicated to restore. It may be OK if you understand what you are doing though...
