Re: Got a Smartphone? (who doesn't) Watch what you say on it
How do you pay on SalesPoint or in the shop with GrapheneOS? Some bank's applications support NFC but not all and they are not as versatile as GPay.

Re: [SOLVED] Notepad++ fork with the ability to save text without actually saving it on disk?
tl;dr: this is on notepadqq, not on mint 22. I'm not sure about that, notepadqq is available for Linux Mint from Ubuntu Universe repository along with thousands other packages which are maintained by MOTU Team. Of course its your informed choice not to use notepadqq but also there are thousands of ...

Re: [SOLVED] Notepad++ fork with the ability to save text without actually saving it on disk?
Don't know why but notepadqq is crashing a lot on my PC. It may be if you're on the Linux Mint 22 (notepadqq v2.0.0-beta-git). It will crash until you'll uncheck the auto-save option. After that it will not crash and the text is still available after reopening the app. More on this bug here: https:...

Re: Notepad++ fork with the ability to save text without actually saving it on disk?
It seems to be a tradition of this forum to give vague unverified general advice when there is a specific answer already. To counteract that I expand my comment above a little: Notepadqq is a similar to Notepad++ editor for the Linux . Text is saved as you type without creating a file first... Text ...

Re: Are there any downsides to LVM and FDE?
1. Are there any downsides to selecting LVM & FDE for a device that only has a single (physical) hard drive? - The automatic installer option LVM+LUKS makes dual boot almost impossible on a Desktop installation with a single drive - There is no need in LVM on Desktop if there is no plans to res...

Re: How to type Polish characters?
I think that explains why Right Alt can't be used for typing Polish letter on this keyboard, its code is identical to the Left Alt.108 0xfe03 (ISO_Level3_Shift) 0x0000 (NoSymbol) 0xfe03 (ISO_Level3_Shift) 0x0000 (NoSymbol) 0xfe03 (ISO_Level3_Shift) 0xfe03 (ISO_Level3_Shift)

Re: How to type Polish characters?
the output is far bigger than one screen, just run command and using the terminal scrollbar find line with Alt_R. If it is identical to this one, Right Alt is valid.

Re: How to type Polish characters?
May be, I just took Dell Inspiron 7520, (not British keyboard), the right Alt has code 108 0xffea (Alt_R) 0xffe8 (Meta_R) 0xfe03 (ISO_Level3_Shift) 0xfe03 (ISO_Level3_Shift) Then added Polish layout, switched to Polish layout and had Polish letters with Right Alt: Screenshot from 2024-09-10 07-59-45...

Re: The update frequency of Mint's Firefox: an increasing security concern?
Good to see that mtwebster wrote that. (why live with even a small delay of one or two days, when it's so easy for me to avoid it?) These two days is just a small part of real exposure to vulnerability. What matters is a time after vulnerability was discovered until issuing the patch, it may be day...

Re: Kernel Drama Around Rust Devs
Rust almost seems a religion for some, I don't know much about it other than it is touted as being the perfect language for making sure memory is protected whatever that means. And they are demanding all the C programmers bow to them. Reading this post of Asahi Linux rust developer Asahi Lina we ca...

Re: Kernel Drama Around Rust Devs
If I was Linus, I'd yank BCacheFS out of the kernel and force it to be built as a module. Currently the main problem with rust and BcacheFS is not with the kernel part but with a bcachefs-tool package which was just orphaned by Debian https://jonathancarter.org/2024/08/29/orphaning-bcachefs-tools-i...
