Upgrade from 17 to 18 (KDE)

I know an upgrade from 17 to 18 is not supported, but does anyone know if it's possible to upgrade manually by changing the apt sources (and maybe installing some Plasma5 packages)? Or will that break the system?

Even if it's a bit tricky, it might be less work than reinstalling from scratch...

Hi Karl, thanks for the link. It doesn't seem to be quite the same problem though. I get the correct output for the lsb_release commands (Description: Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Release: 17, qiana) and running "sudo /etc/init.d/mintsystem" doesn't seem to do anything. The directory /usr/share/mintsources/...

Same problem here. Both add-apt-repository and software-sources-kde (or gtk) crash. I don't have a /usr/share/mintsources/qiana directory either. Any solutions? Seems to be OK now. I can now install all the updates and the system no longer wants to remove important packages.

I had the same problem. The solution was to start Skype with the command "env PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=30 skype".
