Sound input level not available for one user.

Hello, I have an issue with one user : The slider for mike input level in setting is stuck on mute. It is greyed (as if the user had no authorization to make modification). It is a regular user (groups users). My other regular user can manage the input level as I expect. Is there a setting that disa...

[Solved]Wine 32bit on 64bit system

I had to dig out the net quite a bit to run an app with wine, this is just a report for general knowledge. It was running fine except for a 3D view that popped up a complaint message regarding missing DirectX I searched for reports on identical issue (mainly gamers are involved). It turned out that ...

Hello, I've spend quite long time searching the web to run Arduino IDE on my LMDE2 desktop. I had an issue to set to serial conexion to the Arduino board, and I couldn't upload any code. After trying many hacks from either arduino.cc or other sources I found this install guide using search key "...

Re: login recovery mode

Here I am asking if when booting in recovery (wich I never had to use before) it is normal not to be able to log in with regular users and admin users, but only in root. I linked the origin of my problem just for context. I don't expect help to solve the other matters here. Regarding the other post ...

[SOLVED]login recovery mode

I am trouble shooting my boot issue discribed here.
I noticed that when booting in recovery mode I can only login with root. none of my other users work. Is that a normal behavior of recovery or is it the login that is somewhat damaged ?

Re: Boot loop after chmod.

I managed to remove the /mnt/DiskStationLQE. I realized I had forgotten the -r option with my rm command.
But no boot so far, so I broke something else. I'd need to run something like fsck, but I can't when I boot in recovery.
Never been there before, so help appreciated.

[SOLVED]Boot loop after chmod.

Hello, As I was trying to set up a nfs share with my Synology DiskStation as explained here I ran a chmod that seems to have broken my system sudo chmod 0666 /mnt/DiskStationLQE DiskStationLQE is the mount point I made previously when following the howto. As it didn't work at once (the nfs were avai...

Re: Upgrading vs fresh install.

BACKUP,BACKUP,BACKUP... That's the mantra that lead to upper wisdom. I know I should do it more often, but I am getting better at it. I did my upgrade appending the source list. It went rather flowlessly with reference to the howto (and many web search and man reading). my Report. Initial set up : L...

Re: Upgrading vs fresh install.

Well, I must have not expressed my question correctly. I don't ask what is the better way (that is of course an infinite argument), but rather a question of what is really going on under the hood. Every time I have to do some computer work, I try to get some more knowledge, and that's why I am runni...

Re: Upgrading vs fresh install.

From my personal experience Id say go with the fresh install approach. http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/2 Thanks for the link, and worth being read. But as I understand, this article applies for linux Mint upgrade, and I am talking LMDE. Part of the reason I chose LMDE is to have the 'r...

[REPORT INSIDE]Upgrading vs fresh install.

Hy, I have to upgrade to LMDE2 now, but still I hesitate between following the howto suggested in the forum (by editing the source.list) or doing a all fresh install, but keeping my /home wich is on a separate HDD. Here is my current setup : SSD with my root and swap. Single boot (I don't run any ot...

KmPlot comma point issue.

Hello, I have found an issue using KmPlot with LMDE and french local. As you may know we latins use the comma ',' as a point '.' regarding decimal numbers. It is implemented with the system. So when using KmPlot a decimal number can be written for example 3,14 or 3.14. KmPlot accepts both. The issue...

Hello, I sometime use iCab on my MAc for one of its functionallity I have never seen implemented on any other web browser : iCab can pretend to be something else, for example, it can sign as Chrome used on a Windows machine, or FireFox on linux. This is quite handy espacially when using an iPad beca...

Thank you for your reply. In fact I just didn't do anything, and now I have the correct icon in the graphical section, and the launcher I created simply doesn't exist anymore, neither the other apps section. I guess that Mint understood what I expected, only it just did it when I wasn't watc...
