BTW, ubuntu is not forcing you to use Unity. It's just the default. You could always install XFCE, LXDE, MATE, Awesome, Cinnamon, or whatever DM you want on it. Same with Mint or any other distro. Anyways, welcome to Mint!

Question is, with all that open, are you using all 4G of the RAM? If not, then putting 4G more in won't really matter.

Unless you are compiling software or encoding audio/video often there really is very little speed difference between the two operating architectures. Meaning that most people who just use the computer for everyday tasks such as webrowsing will not notice a difference between the two. For the averag...

With my system, Mint12 32bit is much, much more stable that the 64bit version.

You're using Gnome classic and not Gnome-shell. Log out and hit the cog-wheel by your name and choose Gnome for the new Gnome 3.

Just a FYI, I downgraded to Mint 10 64 and all the quirks you mentioned that I had too, were gone. 10 just seems more stable.

That is one of the reasons I downgraded back to version 10. Happened a lot for me when using version 11. Never happens in 10.

For a windows program, yes, use wine. To actually run Win7 in Linux, use something like VirtualBox.
