Re: Lost Control Over My Desktop. Literally

Apparently now this happens every time I boot. It's pretty irritating having to log in three times each session, would appreciate if anyone can jump in with ideas.

Thanks.

Re: Lost Control Over My Desktop. Literally

Did you ever install any desktop-related or eye candy utilities such as wallpaper switcher, compiz multiple-wallpaper plugin or anything at all? If so, try to remove (purge) them. If not, make sure there are no multiple instances of Nautilus running: 1. Close all open windows and applications. 2. G...

Re: Lost Control Over My Desktop. Literally

Unfortunately the issue returned. I'm going to go through the same process, but it's just a little irritating that it keeps happening. Any idea on how I could prevent it?

Re: Lost Control Over My Desktop. Literally

This is getting weirder. Sometimes you have to log out and log back in for the changes to take effect. So what I suggest you do now is open up gconf-editor again, uncheck the 'show_desktop' option, log out and log back in, put check mark on the option again, then log out and log back in. I know thi...

Re: Lost Control Over My Desktop. Literally

Is show_desktop checked under gconf-editor -> apps -> nautilus -> preferences?? If it's checked try rechecking it again - maybe run killall nautilus in terminal afterwards Yea it was checked, tried rechecking and running: kasper@kasper-desktop ~ $ killall nautilus nautilus: no process killed kasper...

Lost Control Over My Desktop. Literally

Ok this is really strange, I have no idea how this happened. I have completely lost control over my desktop, there are no icons. I used to have my home folder and two mounted harddrives show up, but now there is nothing. I have enabled them in MintDesktop but they are not showing up. The other thing...

Re: Firefox Chrashes When I Open This Link!

Yes, you should. Flashplugin-nonfree and flashplayer-nonfree are problematic on 32-bit Mint systems as well but adobe-flashplugin generally performs much better. But you do not have to download the plugin from Adobe's site as there is already an up-to-date version available in the repository. These...

Re: Firefox Chrashes When I Open This Link!

Right I have just reinstalled MInt 32 bit and the problems still exists. I haven't done anything to the flash plugin, should I update the flash plugin to the one released by adobe?

Re: The easiest way to ReInstall and Keep settings and drivers

The question is whether you will need that 4GB RAM in Linux, which is very unlikely unless you run mission-critical high-load services on your desktop or run some sort of multi-environment virtualization. I believe you bought or built that machine with gaming in mind, which is of course a Windows j...

Re: The easiest way to ReInstall and Keep settings and drivers

Yeah I actually have 4GB of ram which is the main reason for installing 64bit. I also read quite a few post regarding 64bit saying that it would increase performance etc.

Re: Firefox Randomly Crashes Flash Videos

The problem seems to be returning at random times. Have tried both methods and have returned to the original. Can't figure out what to do, I think I'm going for a clean install if I can do it without losing all my settings and drivers. See here: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=2...

The easiest way to ReInstall and Keep settings and drivers

Hi, It's no secret that I have had quite a few problems with my Linux Mint installation which is only a few weeks old: The problems can't really be overlooked as they interfere with my daily workflow. It's system updates: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=21614 Flash troubles: htt...

Re: Firefox Chrashes When I Open This Link!

Hi, Does it crash with another browser like opera ? No! update: now i saw that you tried with a clean profile and that issue might be with the icedtea thingy...still, maybe an add-on might be a culprit... It also crashes on a complete clean profile i created by running 'firefox -p' from terminal? a...

Re: Firefox Chrashes When I Open This Link!

I have followed the instructions on the linux mint blog on how to update Java and Flash, but as you can see here: http://linuxmint.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=21614#p127780 I'm having problems. I was under the impression that I didn't have to download the stable version and reinstall everythi...

Re: Firefox Chrashes When I Open This Link!

This is actually getting quite annoying. It seems like the crashes happen randomly. some days it will crash at a specific site, next day it's working leading you to believe the problem is fixed just to find taht it crashes at another site. This is what I get in the terminal: $ firefox ICEDTEAPLUGIN_...
