Re: LMDE 4 Kernels

It's my understanding that the update manager does't do kernel updates to the 5.x kernels. Is this correct? BTW, in LMDE 4 the backports are already enabled. Backports are all ready enabled on LMDE4, for optain a update of your kernel make : apt update && apt install -t buster-backports linux-image...

Re: LMDE 4

Too bad LM pushes Cinnamon so hard, it's not really suitable for the lower income masses. Hello sdibaja, Since I'm tired of the incessant updates from Ubuntu, I switched to Debian on my two machines, My workstation with Nvidia GPU is under Cinnamon, but I gave it up for my laptop. For him, I instal...

Re: From LMDE3 to LMDE4 beta?

I tell you this because we had this problem a few months ago, so my scripts all use apt-get.

And then everyone does what they like most ...

Best regards.

Re: From LMDE3 to LMDE4 beta?

Simple, from a root console > apt-get update > apt-get upgrade > apt-get dist-upgrade Without all the get . Not sure why so many insist on using outdated commands. In scripts "apt" alone does not work, we must use "apt-get"... Others mans use "aptitude install". Everyone does as they please :) This...

Re: LMDE 4

Testing out LMDE 4 Beta and ran into a problem/bug (or am I doing something wrong?). I selected my disk and manually setup the partitions. I deleted the SWAP and EXT4 partitions and created a single, XFS partition. After doing that, I went back to the 'main' installer and clicked 'refresh' and the ...

Re: LMDE 4

Debian has like 3 different packages for each DE. It's usually pretty much minimal, middle of the road, and full. Taskel if I recall correctly gives you everything. Yes with tasksel fonction you have acces to graphical text installation of Gnome / Xfce / XDE Plasma / Cinnamon / Mate / LXDE / LXQt a...

Re: LMDE 4

I am excited for LMDE 4, but I have a couple of questions: 1) I am not 100% clear will it use the superb Mint installer which makes it painless to install or will you still have to manually partition things? 2) Will you be allowed to update to 5 series kernels (I fear my system 76 laptop will bork ...

Re: LMDE 4

I've been running LMDE4 (Beta) on my laptop and have noticed a memory usage increase compared to Mint 19.3 (Cinnamon) when in idle (both clean installs).Mint 19.3 idles on my laptop around 465MB and LMDE4 around 680 and even 710 at one point (using free -h). I was really hoping it would be lower on...

Re: LMDE 4

I've tried LMDE4 on several comps and can attest to no problems found yet. Maybe there aren't any? ;) But I can say that I like it. I also tested it too and I found some problems, under certain conditions the installer does not work well. Once installed the distribution works a priori very well. We...

Re: LMDE 4

Hi phil995511, Thank you for your answer. Funny enough I was just listening to the latest (JB) Linux Unplugged Podcast and there was also a discussion about micro rolling distro's (to be fair it was about servers), but one of the guests also made a point (like you just did) that nowadays having a r...

Re: LMDE 4

Hi, my very first post on this board, so better make it interesting :) From what I've read LMDE3 is based on Debian "Stable" and so will be LMDE4. Is there any benefit in changing "Stable" to "Testing" or maybe even "Unstable" (by editing sources.list)? The idea of a more "rolling" (more up to date...

Re: Touch screen works on MX Live

It will certainly work better for you with LMDE 4 whose Beta version should arrive by the end of the week / 10 days maximum I think. Normally all versions of Linux based on Debian are capable of doing what you want. Waiting for LMDE 4 is out, test this with Linux Mint 19.3 without the need to instal...

Re: LMDE 4

The method below is complicated, does it still need to work... I would prefer a directly functional solution.

Re: Sound Converter 3.x AAC format

My music is on my personal repertory on /home/philippe/Musique with subfolders artist/artist-name of album. I have hundreds of folders and subfolders. I want to keep this structure out... Aac-enc seems unable to do this. If I test it with a folders named 'test' (source) and tt (destination) it run, ...
