Re: What's wrong with Edger?
Thank you. I didn't know what you told me here about the condition of the USB drive after using Edger. I thought it had failed, repeatedly. It would be helpful if the notes with Edger or other such utilities as well as other documentation or books would mention what I just learned. I'll start over. ...

What's wrong with Edger?
Would like to try Live Cinnamon 20.1. See how I like it, then use with late model Windows 10 laptop, perhaps dual boot or Virtual from within Windows. Have downloaded in Windows and verified Cinnamon. Tried to use Edger to create bootable USB, total disaster! Edger has already ruined 3 USB 3's, I fi...

Re: downloading Mint Linux
Another basic question. Have two Windows 10 laptops. Want to start using one for trying the various incarnations of Mint. Can I simply remove the W10 OS and start loading an .iso usb, try it without installing and try another, etc.? Thank you for your advice, Paul Thank you again, Paul You are welco...

Re: downloading Mint Linux
Thank you! No, I don't get an error message, it just sits there, no response. However, you gave me an idea. You mentioned Opera, Norwegian isn't it? I always use Chrome and I thought if not Opera I can at least try another browser. I run Windows 10. So I tried Microsoft Edge and it downloaded the is...

install Kodi
I run Mint 17.1. Have recently acquired Google Chromecast and added the Chromecast extension to the Chrome browser on my laptop, which enables me to mirror web pages onto my TV screen. But to use Kodi, which enables viewing innumerable shows for free, I have to install Kodi and I have so far been un...

Re: Mint 17 KDE: panel showing what's open
Thank you. Yes, I thought of that but right now it's working and I want to get on with some other matters. I use the older panel for not only the system tray but also for a number of icons representing those things I use most often, and I have the impression that that perhaps prevents that panel fro...

Re: Mint 17 KDE: panel showing what's open
Thank you. I created an additional and empty panel with the "icon-only task manager". It shows what's open on all virtual desktops and allows me to easily switch from one window to another, whether on the same virtual desktop or another, or to get back to a minimized window. Too bad I only...

Re: Mint 17 KDE: panel showing what's open
Thank you, but I doubled-clicked on 'icon-only task manager' and nothing happened, tried left-click, right-click, logged out and back in......nothing!

panel showing what's open
Am a very happy user first of Mint 16 KDE and now of Mint 17 KDE. Except for one problem: Unlike Mint 16 KDE and many other OSs, even Windows, 17 KDE does not show on the panel/task bar what is open allowing easy mouse click switching from one app window to another, whether on the same or different ...

Re: scanning
Am setting up a Brother MFC-J6510DW, have had it for some years. Printing is fine. Scanning has always worked with Windows which, since recently, I do not have anymore. Scanning never worked with Linux, not with SUSE, not with Mint 16 KDE, not with Mint 17.1 MATE and now not with Mint 17.1 KDE. But ...

Re: Simple-scan for Mint 17.1 KDE 64 bit
Thank you both. I have installed it now with Synaptic. I doesn't detect the scanner but that is, I think, a problem with Brother's drivers. Printing works but not the scanning.

Please, can someone tell me how to install Simple-scan? The online directions, in as much as there are any, are quite confusing.

Re: scanning
Yes, I did use the driver install tool, exactly as Brother says I should. When I enter the Linux list command it shows that the drivers are installed. Printer works, scanner does not. By the way, that install tool seems to be only for installing the printer driver.

scanning
I have just become a happy user of Mint 17.1 KDE 64-bit. Except for scanning! I have a Brother multifunction machine. Duly installed the drivers supplied by Brother. Printer is working, scanner is not. Driver detects the scanner but than the machine just sits there doing nothing. For what's worth, s...
