Re: The pros of XFCE DE?
In addition to everything else that has been said, here are a couple more cool things in Xfce: Custom actions in Thunar (Edit > Configure customs actions) Search Actions in Whisker Menu (Right Click > Properties > Search Actions) Bonus: Open Thunar, click on a drop-down menu (like File or Edit), hov...

Re: Show mouse cursor when control is pressed
Thanks for that suggestion, secureIT. At the moment I'm testing the script in my Downloads folder and seeing a white box rather than my selected image. I've checked that the correct path to the image is specified. Maybe an issue with image dimensions? I'll play around and see!

Re: Show mouse cursor when control is pressed
I did try it, but the locate-pointer option in dconf is not present on my system. I also tried the command line options on that page but nothing happened.
I'm just wondering if Xfce exposes some of those options in a different way than Gnome.

Show mouse cursor when control is pressed
In Xfce is there a quick way to highlight the position of the mouse cursor when I press the control key? Something like what they discuss for Ubuntu here .

I had to chime in about this. "Custom Actions" is pure gold! I went a whole year in Xfce before realizing it was even there.MtnDewManiac wrote: ↑Mon Oct 29, 2018 7:54 pmone thing that Thunar has going for it is the ability to easily add "custom actions" to its right-click menu.

Hide the popup window for file operations [solved]
When you copy or move files in Xfce, a little progress window pops up in the middle of the screen. Is there a way to minimize this or to at least send it to the "bottom"? (Better yet, is there a way to minimize it by default every time it appears?). If I right-click on its title bar, the u...

Re: Linux Mint 18.3 “Sylvia” Xfce released!
When you get the chance, find out which major revisions your system is showing. I'm seeing 4.11 and 4.13 on my system, with multiple minor updates for each. Are you not seeing 4.13 at all? My problem is still why does the update manager report a minor kernel update? The system will keep showing mino...

Re: Linux Mint 18.3 “Sylvia” Xfce released!
Maybe it will help if we use actual numbers. Which kernel version do you have and which one do you want? I'm assuming you are looking for something in the 4.10 series, since that is the version that comes with a fresh install of Mint 18.3. In my list of kernels I have 4.10.0-42 active, and this appe...

Re: what makes xfce lightweight?
RAM consumption depends on how much code is loaded into it (the DE, other modules, plugins, applets, visual enhancements etc.) and not necessarily how fast some environment is. Yeah, that's my view too. Xfce isn't just "lighter" on resources but more efficient with the resources it uses. ...

Re: Linux Mint 18.3 “Sylvia” Xfce released!
At the update level for average users in the update manager the recommended level 4 kernel updates did not appear, so far. Click on Edit > Preferences > Levels. Ensure that the level 4 updates are "visible". If they are visible and nothing is appearing in the update window, that means you...

Re: Linux Mint 18.3 “Sylvia” Xfce released!
Is it necessary to install the new kernel and this replaces the old one?? I have an upgrade level for the average user and a blue color indicates updates in bottom right corner, but inside the update manager nothing is selected for install. I'm not sure if you are asking how to update the kernel or...

Re: what makes xfce lightweight?
Yes XFCE is lighter, especially in it's default config. But if you replace xfwm with compiz, pile on dekstop effects, add docks and applets everywhere, and install a bunch of startup service you can make it pretty heavy. My Xfce + Compiz system (64-bit) uses 370 MB of RAM after boot and 0.3% of CPU...

Re: Compiz doesn't use xfce window decorations
There's an easy workaround for changing window decorations without having to install Kwin. I got this tip from the 4th post in this thread at the Linux Lite forums (that's another Ubuntu-based Xfce distro). I'll post the instructions below (with slight re-wording) in case they disappear from the oth...

Found a solution. For anyone looking at this in future, open Compiz settings and go to
General Options > Focus Prevention Level
. Set that option to Off

Re: Coming soon - Firefox Client Side Decoration
I think it was something to do with the way it changed the pixel layout Thanks for the tip about devilspie2. It turns out the first version was just not being maintained anymore, so someone forked it. The fork is not compatible with the original. However, for my very simple need, the original versi...

I'd start from the assumption that every Linux developer would go over to BSD. I would then follow them to BSD, happy in the knowledge that these people would finally make BSD user-friendly!

Re: Coming soon - Firefox Client Side Decoration
As things stand now, in KDE at least, it's easy to make a window-specific rule to cleanly lose the title bar. Min/max and close are also taken out but there's always the keyboard for that. I've accomplished the same in Xfce by installing a package called devilspie (instructions: https://serge-m.git...

Re: Firefox 57 Quantum -- add-ons
addon I really miss is "adblock + element blocker" I miss that one too uBlock Origin can do that for you, and with a lower resource overhead than Adblock. I only wanted the "element blocker"; ublock doesn't have an "expand" (like adblock) so I'd end up blocking 3 or 4 ...

I also discovered a massively improved Bluetooth functionality when I upgraded from 18.0 to 18.2. Not sure if this was also the case with 18.1.Citizen229 wrote:The video card is the real deal breaker.
