Re: Having trouble setting up and using CIFS to access USB storage on router.

I generally don't like to post in questions about routers but ..... So far I have added the following to my /etc/fstab file: //192.168.0.1/Seagate_Backup_2AXK2 /media/dlink cifs username=user, password=password 0 0 When I click on "dlink" , I get an error msg saying I don't have permission to open it...

Re: Folder sharing issue

The default file sharing mechanism in MacOS is SMB ( aka Samba ). It replaced AFP as the default years ago. The default file server in Ubuntu is Samba.

Re: Folder sharing issue

You have two different issues with different causes. One of the great things about Ubuntu 18.04 is how they finally configured Samba for mDNS registration. The moment you install the samba package ( as in sudo apt install samba ) that machine will automatically register itself to the rest of the net...

Not enough information to answer the question.

Why not just Bookmark those locations since name resolution appears to be working.

Re: Mount SMB and use as User

I went through your post 3 times and I have no idea what you are talking about so these are just flat out guesses. If i mount the Share with root under /mnt/smb1, i cant access /mnt with the User under Cinnamon Sounds like you are doing a mount.cifs mount so you need to add another option to your mo...

Re: Interest: If ever there was reason to uninstall mono, this is it

From the article: To add to the irony, this was done with pirated copies of the Little Snitch firewall and users who tried to avoid paying for a licence ended up with malware instead, researcher Leonid Grustniy said. The "licence" in question costs $45 which would be the smallest expenditure a typic...

If you are befuddled by a cifs mount why not use a gio mount: tester@gort:~$ gio mount smb://192.168.1.208/shared Password required for share shared on 192.168.1.208 User [tester]: smbuser Domain [WORKGROUP]: Password: tester@gort:~$ ls -al /run/user/1000/gvfs/smb-share:server=192.168.1.208,share=sh...

Surely someone has mounted a Windows 10 shared-drive to their Mint distro? I just did it here: tester@gort:~$ sudo mount -t cifs //192.168.1.208/shared /media/Win10Shared -o username=smbuser,password=smbuserpw,uid=1000 [sudo] password for tester: tester@gort:~$ ls -al /media/Win10Shared total 60 dr...

Re: [SOLVED]Mint 19 Network SAMBA shares not shownin File Manager

It won't be in smb.conf. It's in the default settings for samba. Those are two different things. Mint 18 uses version 4.3.X of samba so the setting there is: testparm -sv /dev/null | grep "client max protocol" ... client max protocol = default Mint 19 uses 4.7.X of samba and the default setting ther...

Re: LM 19.1 and SAMBA

Are the developers going to take a look and try to get windows networking properly working, it works as charm under LM18.3 ? I would bet the farm that they are not. It's not how forks / derivatives of Ubuntu work. It you touch something you own it and the very last thing Mint wants to own is Samba....

Re: [SOLVED] Could not display "/media/username/volume". The location is not a folder

Yes it looks right but I have to wonder how Linux Mint got into this situation in the first place. Mint shouldn't be monkeying around with the internals like this so I wonder what happened.

Re: [SOLVED] Could not display "/media/username/volume". The location is not a folder

Previously the directory looked like this: $ ls -l /media/ drwxr-x--- 2 root root 4096 Apr 14 13:15 username Hm ... it looks like that was the problem all along. It's supposed to look like this: ls -l /media drwxr-x---+ 3 root root 4096 Feb 20 08:00 username The little + at the end of the permissio...

seahorse is the application. It is listed a Passwords and Keys in the menu: SeaHorse.png It will automatically add the credentials there when you select Remember Forever when connecting to the SSH server. And it will automatically supply those credentials when you try to access the server again.
