Re: Nemo issue with SMB connected to Windows Share

You don't. It simply is. Any Ubuntu system ( or something based on or forked from Ubuntu ) past 17.10 or so that has samba installed and avahi-daemon running will automatically announce it's presence to the rest of the network. All other Linux and MacOS systems will see that machine in their file ma...

Re: Nemo issue with SMB connected to Windows Share

Made the changes everyone is talking about with max protocol = SMB2 and name resolve order = bcast lmhosts hosts wins No need to mess with "client max protocol" if you are using Mint 19.2. It's set to automatically negotiate with the server to find the best SMB dialect to use from SMB1 all the way ...

Re: [SOLVED] Samba sharing and Drive mount permisions [SOLVED]

For what it's worth this looks like a bug in nemo-shares to me. What should have happened is a check of the permissions of /mnt/Shared and when it was found that it would not allow a write by "guests" the "Modify Share" button should have been enabled and the error message should have stated that yo...

I think Mint is messing with Ubuntu error messages again ...... Please post the output of the following command: ls -al /mnt EDIT : Found it in GitHub: // Check if the path is fully accessible by everybody gint exit_status; gchar *output = NULL; const gchar *command = g_strdup_printf ("%s/check-dire...

Re: Directory sharing on LAN with Windows 7 and 10

3 more questions:

What is your hostname on the Linux box- run the following:

Code: Select all

hostname
And what are the permissions of the target folder and the path to it:

Code: Select all

ls -al /mnt/linmag
And how are you mounting the target folder - if this is another partition:

Code: Select all

cat /etc/fstab

Re: Directory sharing on LAN with Windows 7 and 10

Just a suggestion but what's missing from this topic is how you are set up, what you are sharing, and where the shared folder is located. If you post the output of the following commands I think it would help:

Code: Select all

testparm -s

Code: Select all

net usershare info --long

Re: LAN Share does not connect to other PCs in Linux Mint 19.2

Actually - and believe me I fully understand the irony in what I'm about to say - the way Ubuntu and Samba have evolved since 17.10 Samba pretty much works seamlessly with other Linux systems. It's Windows it has a problem with. I just booted into the install disk of Kubuntu18.04 to see how things a...

Re: Mint 19.2 Mate cannot see or be seen on LAN

As I showed you above in my screenshots I'm not having any of these problems. My only suggestion at this point is to bypass as much of Mint and it's MATE desktop as possible and do a cifs mount instead. [1] Create a mount point - these are all examples: sudo mkdir /media/Win10share [2] Make sure cif...

Re: Mint 19.2 Mate cannot see or be seen on LAN

Can you connect to the WIn7 and WIn10 machine explicitly on caja?

smb://server/share

Or better yet use Connect to Server:

Which results in:
Caja-SMB-Mount.png

Need to see how samba is setup on your system. Re: Mint 19.2 Mate cannot see or be seen on LAN

I installed SAMBA, and now the Lenovo is visible on my Windows 7 box and not on Windows 10 laptop Win10 cannot discover anything that uses NetBIOS so you need to access the Linux box explicitly or enable WS-Discovery. Details here: Windows 10 and Samba File Sharing I created a folder to share on th...

Re: LAN Share does not connect to other PCs in Linux Mint 19.2

I downloaded the appimage version LanShare and have it running between Xubuntu 18.04 and Mint Cinnamon 19.2. Everything works for me. I don't know how this thing works so I don't know how to debug it but maybe the issue is something else. Maybe a firewall is in the way. Can you ping the other machin...

Re: LAN Share does not connect to other PCs in Linux Mint 19.2

However, LAN Share does not connect to other PCs in our LAN (also using LAN Share, obviously). Are you talking about "LAN Share" the application? The thing that all your machines have to install and use to transfer files? As in https://github.com/abdularis/LAN-Share Or are you taking about Samba? S...

Re: Auto mounting NAS drives

I followed steps 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 - but not 7 - and after a reboot there were no mounts. I even got the same "status=32" error. Then I masked the service , deleted the file I created at /etc/systemd/system/rc-local.service, unmasked the service, restarted the service, and rebooted. Then I checked to...

It would suit my working environment to run Cinnamon at the base and run Win7 on VirtualBox.
What exactly do you mean by "working environment"? Do you mean your environment at work ... as in your place of employment?

Re: Auto mounting NAS drives

autofs is something that needs to be configured. In fact I wrote a HowTo on it about a hundred years ago: Auto Mounting Samba Shares Using AutoFS I don't see how just installing the package fixed anything. Then again I don't know why you created your own rc-local.service in the wrong place when one ...
