Re: How do I change the name of a hard drive?

I think we are talking about two different things here. "WDC WD6002FZWX" isn't a partition label it's a drive - and in this case I mean drive - id. Like what you would find by running: ls -l /dev/disk/by-id/ | grep sd[a-z]$ EDIT : My opinion - not that anyone has asked for it - if to right click an ...

Re: 18.3/Windows 10 file sharing

There are multiple ways to connect 2 Linux machines: NFS, SSH, Samba, .... I use Samba because it is the default file sharing system used on all operaing systems - including Desktop Linux. It does get way simpler between 2 Linux machines than with Windows in the mix. [1] Install the samba server pac...

-If I go File>Connect to server enter in server IP, select windows share and enter either Mint credentials or credentials for a local account on the windows computer a gold banner pops up on the top saying "Please verify your user credentials". Re: Unable to change permissions for folders contained in a ntfs mounted partition.

This would have been a lot easier for me if you had posted it as text in your post ........ Anyway, as far as I can tell this is how Disks defined your mount: /dev/disk/by-uuid/B4282D6C282D2EB4 /mnt/B4282D6C282D2EB4 auto nosuid,nodev,nofail,x-gvfs-show 0 0 But you want this: I have two user accounts...

Re: Unable to change permissions for folders contained in a ntfs mounted partition.

Crikey. Since both users have rw permissions to the partition you must have an entry in /etc/fstab to define it. Please post the output of this command so the folks here can see how it's set up: cat /etc/fstab Unlike a Linux filesystem where you can change permissions after it is mounted you have to...

Re: When connecting to a server via Nautilus, system slows down and desktop goes black

I have never experienced anything like the background turning black and such but I have to ask you what happens when you use "Connect to Server" from Nemo since that is the default file manager instead of Nautilus..

Re: Permissions not inheriting to files and folders in Linux mint

I have never used acl's to do this opting for using a setgid instead but this part of your post is of interest: i also tried changing user umask 0002 The default umask in Mint 18 is already at 0002. The default umask in Mint 17 and earlier is 0022 because of a bug in the display manager ( that is no...

Nope. I'm referring to CamelBack. Re: Unable to mount samba share in mint 18.03

There is nowhere near enough information in your post to answer the question. ** This isn't the Ubuntu forum where if you say you are running Xubuntu 17.10 ... We know what version ( 17.10 ) and also what desktop environment ( XFCE ). my main mint PC tells us nothing. ** Similarly my samba server do...

Re: Can't mount DFS

Not familiar with DFS so in that context: Samba now defaults to SMB3 3 - Mounting the DFS share by gvfs (like with Nemo) is still working, is it using SMB1? There are two different "Samba's" at play here. The Linux Kernel starting with 4.13 does change the default smb dialect for CIFS from SMB1 to S...

Re: Is 18.3 stable?

The question is, what do you mean with "stable"? In the sense of running without freezes or crashes I have no objection. Regarding the number of unsolved bugs, there is a big difference; this is the reason, why no LM 18.x will get my workhorse. I run 17.3 and this will do it at least until summer; ...

Re: Open files in application stored on NAS

If I understand the question correctly I think you are looking for the mount point of the remote share. If you are using Gigolo the share is mounted at: /run/user/1000/gvfs/smb-share:server=server-name,share=share-name What you can do is create a bookmark to the gvfs location. For example, run this ...

Re: shared folders need user/password?

Nope.

Your client to this samba server will be prompted for a user name and password. The client will then have to pass the username of ian with his samba password.

Re: shared folders need user/password?

All of your shares are of this form: [Pictures] path=/home/ian/Pictures comment= usershare_acl=Everyone:R,Unix User\ian:F, guest_ok=n They all require a samba user name and password to gain access. So if you wanted the linux user ian to gain access to the share you need to have him added to the samb...

Re: improvement to System-config-samba and Caja samba share browsing

I don't want this to come across as being harsh but you posted this request in the wrong forum. Mint doesn't own system-config-samba. Ubuntu does. And I really don't think they will do anything with it. The version of that package in Mint 18 is 1.2.63-0ubuntu6. The version in Xubuntu 18.04 ( Alpha )...

Re: mounting NAS problems

I hate working with NAS devices. Everything in your post would indicate a protocol level mismatch. Um ... Well ... maybe the nas disabled SMB1 but it's still not able to handle the default SMB3 that cifs uses in the more resent kernels .... Instead of vers=1.0 use vers=2.0 : sudo mount -t cifs -o us...

Re: [SOLVED] Mint Sylvia can't see share Mint Sarah with firewall, rules tried

Question: I then added the iptables persistent option suggestion, and yes, it still works after reboot, but now I'm thinking there could be a negative from that down the road maybe? My question: Better to undo iptables persist and instead run the first command in startup? Don't know which one is a ...
