Re: mount command

You are welcome. And as a side bonus this "networked folder" icon thingy shows up in all your applications. So if the share is not currently mounted and you open up say ... xed and do a File > Open that same little "networked folder" icon thingy shows up on the side panel and allows you to mount the...

Re: mount command

If you are going to go that far you might as well add the user option as well. I just set this up in MATE19 fstab: //gort.local/public /home/tester/Public cifs guest,uid=1000,user,noauto 0 0 What happens next is magic: I will see a "network" folder icon under Devices in caja labeled Public: Caja-Dev...

Re: mount command

Nope, that's a different issue. It's related to this: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/glib/commit/0d69462

As for when Mint is going to fix this: Next Tuesday. Seriously? I have no idea when this will roll tough ubuntu to get to Mint.

Re: mount command

I can't reproduce your symptoms with the facts presented here and I did not understand your last post. There does appear to be a problem with when the shares defined in fstab are being mounted however. There is nothing wrong with this statement - assumming you actually finished the sentence with a 0...

Re: Mounted Samba shares don't show up on desktop

Things ( local partitions or shares ) are mounted where you tell them to mount - unless you use the file manager to mount in which case they mount to /media/$USER/XXX for partitions and /run/user/$UID/gvfs for shares. Based on forum posts it appears that the application Disks has a proclivity to mou...

"The operation can't be completed because the original item for "test" can't be found." The above happens when the computer is connecting as "guest" user. Re: mount command

Edit: doing a "mount -a " does mount all fstab entries again AND show them as icons at the desktop and in caja. Please post the output of this command: cat /etc/fstab Anything - local or remote - mounted under /media ( does NOT have to be under /media/$USER ) or in your home directory creates a mou...

Re: Mounted Samba shares don't show up on desktop

I'm not sure I understand how you are mounting these samba shares but: Anything - and I mean anything ... local partitions to remote samba shares - will display a mount icon if the mount point is under /media or in your home directory. If they are mounted anywhere else they will not. Based on your p...

Re: [SOLVED]Mint 19 Network SAMBA shares not shownin File Manager

Why is samba drop in LM19? I explained the "why" in my HowTo : Samba changed the maximum client smb dialect that it can use from SMB1 to SMB3 so that it could connect to servers that have disabled SMB1 like Win10. This inadvertently disables netbios host discovery so if you go to Network > Windows ...

Re: How to add mounted NTFS partition to the home/as another drive

sudo ntfs-3g -o remove_hiberfile /dev/sda5 /media/$USER/<mount-point> First: you are missing a mount command: mount -t Then create a mount point - you do not want it under /media/jay: sudo mkdir /media/funky Make sure the partition is unmounted. Then the command would be: sudo mount -t ntfs-3g -o r...

Re: How to add mounted NTFS partition to the home/as another drive

I honestly and truly hope I am dead wrong about this but I think you have a bigger problem. By default an NTFS partition not listed in fstab will mount to /media/$USER/XXX with read / write access to everyone. The fact that it is mounting read only is I suspect because you missed a step: Before inst...

Re: How to map network drive

It all depends on how you are connecting to the shares now. If you connect to them through the file manager ( Nemo ) then I would suggest gigolo.

I made a HowTo on this a century ago: Using Gigolo GUI to Mount Remote Samba Shares

Re: NTFS partition files get corrupted after W10 boot!

You know this almost .. almost sounds like you have a missing option in your fstab. It should be this: UUID=A88E87178E86DCE6 /media/m-okanochiwa/Solvatus auto defaults,nofail,uid=1000,gid=1000 ,windows_names 0 0 This is a pretty specific thing though. It prevents you in Linux from saving a file to t...

Re: Files copied to Samba share don't quite inherit the proper permissions

I created a test share on Mint19 Cinnamon which looks like this: [Test] path = /home/tester/Test read only = No force user = tester force group = tester guest ok = yes create mask = 0775 directory mask = 0775 I then added files from Linux and from Win10 into that share and into a subfolder in that s...

Re: Files copied to Samba share don't quite inherit the proper permissions

My original observation still stands. You are using force user = gene All users local and network will act as gene.

What difference does it make if the group permissions allow or don't allow write?

Re: Files copied to Samba share don't quite inherit the proper permissions

The question I have for you is why does it matter? The reason you used "force user" in the first place was to make it so everyone ( server user and all client users ) act as one - in this case gene. EDIT : For future reference: When you post a samba question and want to display how you are set up po...

Re: LM 19 clean install, NAS drives and bookmarks

Gigolo

Code: Select all

sudo apt install gigolo
Connect to the share, bookmark them in gigolo specifying auto-connect, then have gigolo start at login by adding an entry to your Startup Applications.

Re: Still having some weird Samba problems regarding sub-folders

I don't see anything wrong there as long as the permissions of the shared folder and everything under it allow it. I'm talking about Linux permissions here. [marinaresume] path=/mnt/md0/marinaresume comment= usershare_acl=Everyone:F, guest_ok=y For that to work /mnt/md0/marinaresume has to have perm...
