Re: CDROM write protected SUPERBLOCK error

It's fixed. I tried adding the following lines to my fstab file, after researching what to put in the fstab folder. (For those not inclined to read more than the first two lines of any post, such as my helper who didn't know I am specifically having trouble with ability to write to a blank dvd in my...

Re: CDROM write protected SUPERBLOCK error

En ingles por favor. I've not seen anything like this and I don't know what you're refering to. What's a UDF volume. Optical drive size? It's a CDROM! I added how it mounts as a music CD above - but then I understand that music CD's don't mount with a file system. It basically no more shows up anywh...

CDROM write protected SUPERBLOCK error

I just installed Mint 17.1 on a Dell Optiplex 755. If I want to play a music CD or a dvd the CDROM auto-mounts and plays. If I want to install software I have to manually mount the CDROM. It doesn't mount itself like it's supposed to. When I try to WRITE to a BLANK dvd I can't. DISKS says it is writ...

no media found on install cds (takes forever to manually mou

I have a strange problem. I've had a second hand computer for two or three weeks, and that's how long it's taken me to get to the point of installing my Windows software onto Wine/ Crossover. Until now I'd not even tried the dvd/ cd player. I had no trouble installing the software on the first cd. F...

How does one run a normal Gnome session in Mint?

One solution to problems running Google Earth and other applications that need graphic acceleration in certain Linux systems is to run them in a "normal Gnome session".

Is that possible in Mint and how does one do it?

Missing directx9, shaders, acceleration, 3d support errors

I'm having this problem trying to run Google Earth on both Xubuntu and Mint. I get the exact same error message in both operating systems. Installing the missing compositing/ advanced graphics features in Xubuntu did not help - but then, neither did trying it on Mint. I need to know if I'm just miss...

Re: How to Install Flash Update?

I installed flashplugin installer through software center, and I can now play You Tube videos.

I am running Mint 17, Firefox 33.0, Mozilla Firefox for Linux Mint, mint-1.0 . I installed Mint only a few days ago.

Maybe this is a bug with Mint. With Ubuntu I never encountered this problem.

Keyboard topic with Thinkpad

I posted a question about this overnight, and it has disappeared. I don't know, maybe I'm too much of a newbie for those here. I just installed Linux on a Thinkpad T43. It lets me log in alright, and one of the affected keys is in the password, but once it boots into the desktop, every single key th...

Re: Problem reading my install disks

So, what I need to know is, how to do it "correctly". All instructions I've seen say to burn the ISO file, and every one of the ISO burners I've tried do exactly that - burn the ISO file!

Now, what exactly do I want to look for a burning utility to do.

strange characters in console

When I try to type commands in the console, half the characters and letters are special characters and numbers, and the / is a p. I installed the American English keyboard. The problem seems to be that many of the keys have three characters they can possibly be. It's an IBM Thinkpad. I tried shift, ...

Problem reading my install disks

I am finding that sometimes my laptop can boot off of a Linux iso image burnt to CD and sometimes not. The one that it CAN'T boot from, it shows an ISO image on the dvd instead of files. On my working Windows computer it also shows an ISO image on the dvd instead of the files. The one that i DID boo...

Any particular trick to installing?

I downloaded the Mint DBE install image, burned it to DVD, put it in computer dvd drive, I can't get it to boot from the dvd. I made sure that the CD drive is before the hard drive in boot order. I also tried specifically telling it to boot from the dvd. It thought about it a minute and booted into ...

Are sandy bridge i3 and nvidia GeForce 210 compatible?

I can't find clear information on these and when I do find something, what I find is exactly as clear as mud. Will Mint KDE work with sandy bridge i3 processor? If not, what exactly do I have to do to make it run on a sandy bridge i3 processor? And, what do I need to do to get it to initially INSTAL...

Re: How do I download install for CD?

Computer can't boot from USB. It's not an option in BIOS.

How in God's great name can you folks not have a CD option. My instructor says half the point to Linux is it will run on older computers!
