Will Mint work with Optane Memory?
I am going to buy a new laptop, one contender is ASUS ZenBook UX425JA 14" Laptop - Intel® Core™ i5, 512 GB SSD. One of the features of this is 32 Gb Intel Optane. I won't be using Windows, I intend to remove that and just install Mint. Will it work properly with the Optane memory? I have found ...

XSane give Out of memory error - Fixed
I upgraded to Mint 20 a little while back, clean install. This is the first time I have tried to use my scanner. I installed XSane, it finds my scanner, Brother DCP-J7720W which is wireless connected. It appears to scan but the viewer screen does not show anything and if I save the file I get Error ...

SSD & Hard Drive Install Recomendations
I am about to rebuild my system on Mint20 Cinnamon, with a 480Gb SSD and a 4Tb hard drive. Previously I have installed on the SSD and then set /home to be on the hard disk. This worked fairly well, but I did have a problem (unresolved) which looked like my user setup, which had carried over from pre...

Re: How to get newer version of Eric IDE - Fixed!
I started with the Eric Install page https://eric-ide.python-projects.org/eric-download.html I just tried it again and it worked perfectly. Last time it was complaining that it could not find some stuff, can't remember the details I really don't know what went wrong last time, but I now have Eric 20...

Re: How to get newer version of Eric IDE
It looks like that will install 20.2, which is the version available in Mint20 anyway. I need to get to a newer version.
Thanks anyway.

How to get newer version of Eric IDE - Fixed!
Running Mint 20 Cinnamon and I use Eric IDE to develop Python3 code. I just discovered a problem with Eric and research shows that it is fixed in version 20.5 of Eric. The version that comes with Mint 20 is 20.2 Looking on the Eric website https://eric-ide.python-projects.org/eric-download.html it l...

Re: Unison File Sync Fails - Fixed
From some help I had here https://github.com/bcpierce00/unison/issues/337 I have resolved the problem. It seems that Unison is compiled differently on Mint20 and Ubuntu server, and they are compiled with different versions of OCaml, even though they both result in the same Unison version. I fixed it...

Delete File is Slow
Over the last week or so I have noticed that some things have slowed down a lot. Booting seems to take twice as long as it used to and deleting a file is considerable slower. It takes about 4 seconds from hitting the delete key for the file to disappear. Just tried this with an empty file and with a...

'Open with' has multiple entries of some programs
Running 19.1 Cinnamon When opening a file, if I select 'Open with', under Other Applications some applications are listed multiple times, e.g. Banshee is listed 3 times, Krita 12 times, Okular 13 times. Some others are just listed once as I would expect. Why is that? Is it using additional resources...

Brother Ink Jet Colour Profile
When I process pictures from my camera, using DarkTable, the results generally look OK on screen, but when I print them the print is significantly darker than the screen image. From the research I have done I suspect that I need to set the colour profile for the printer. When I print, in the printer...

Re: Screensaver has stopped working
No. My screen doesn't lock up at all, nothing happens, as I said it is set to 10 minutes but I can leave it for hours and the screen is still on and I can just carry on working.
Any ideas?

Screensaver has stopped working
Linux Mint 19.1 Cinnamon My Screensaver is set to 10 minutes and has been that way since I started running Mint many years ago. Recently is has stopped working, i.e. the screen just stays on for ever. I did try changing the time to 15 minutes and that worked until I rebooted, then it didn't work aga...
