I can access other drives or partitions simply by using a live CD. If I get a permission error, I just do sudo nautilus/dolphin/caja, whatever.

Anyway, the best solution... open synaptic and search for openoffice.org, although I dont see why you need it as I assume libre office is pre-installed

you may want to keep the latest older image, in case an update borks your current one

system tray is different to task manager.
some programmes which are running also show an icon in the system tray

In the meantime you can use sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade in the console.

You could also, in synaptics, try uninstall mintupdate , update manager core and whatever other update manager is installed (i have the KDE version also...an then reinstall them via synaptics

I am guseeing the OP didnt even try to connect to the net while in the live disk, so it may just be a case of setting it up before installing

dont know about that one. I use KeepassX without problems and can move the saved password file between different distros

this will restore your install exactly as it is now (as long as the new partition size is big enough for your data needs, which I assume you will make it)
