Re: System doesn't recognise hardware after installation.
There have been more than a few views on this one, and no one has answered for a reason... "There was no internet connection during the install" While things worked well enough with the live-cd, without the newest that you can have drivers, kernel etc, things will NOT WORK the same with th...

Re: manage music on iphone 4 on mint 10 kde?
First things first, if your iphone is detected when you plug it in you should get a few windows that pop up asking which audio software you want to use and what photo editor you would like to import with. At least that is what happens with my 3gs with Gnome 64. From there you have a few options. For...

Re: How to obtain the Fluxbox Mint look?
Kinda have to agree with InterAudi here, you could install fluxbox from the repo's, but if you do not get all the right packages, the first time you start fluxbox you will have a pretty blank screen. Along with that, your menus will be empty as well, from there you will have to manually add programs...

Re: How to install commercial apps, such as Go to My PC?
Haven't had any experiance with GoToMyPc, so shooting from the hip here. I would make sure before you try and install that you do the following from the command line: (as root) apt-get install wine apt-get install wine-doors from there exit root: wget http://www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks Once that d...

Welcome to mint! A few things here, what kind of video card are you using? Nvidia? ATi? These are good things to know. If you are using Nvidia; bring up a terminal and see if you have nvidia-settings installed. easiest way to do that is too make sure you are running as root and type: nvidia-settings...

Re: toshiba satellite linux mint CPU usage 80% mostly
Having owned a PIII/750 with 512mg of ram, my first suggestion if you are willing to try something a bit different it MintFlux. Fluxbox is made for older hardware and runs beautifully. You will still have a lot of the ease of use functionality you have in Gnome. As the MintFlux team has done a very ...

Re: Help, Could not download all repository indexes
Totally agree with the above post! NEVER FOR ANY REASON run a web browser as root. Granted linux on the whole is not as suseptiable to the nasties that are pervasive with Windows, but still some bad ju-ju could come your way. But I digress, to your question. While I've not run across this problem be...

Re: Installation Problem
Believe or not, I've ran into this same issue. Being I just did the upgrade for 2 workstations and this laptop. I don't know what happened when I transfered the disk from the second workstation to the laptop, but no joy at all. Not even a splash screen. Just a bios call to boot from cd, hang and boo...

Re: Customisations and queries about Mint.
Welcome to the world of Linux! Don't give up yet. There are many options for audio in the world of open source. From the complex and spiffy Songbird to very simple command line programs. The sky is really the limit when it comes to customization of your WM experiance. As far as getting the preview a...

Re: My dell d505 latitude keeps crashing
That might be the issue. However, after owning my fair share of older laptops, it might be dodgey support for your laptop's sleep/hybernate functionality. Now you can tweak things to either prevent or fix this issue, but it will entail editing text files and mucking with settings. Not that big of a ...
