Re: 4G USB dongle (YONIS)

Lets see if the command can be automated

Code: Select all

cd /usr/share/usb_modeswitch/
sudo tar -zxvf configPack.tar.gz
That will unpack the usb-modeswitch rules and hopefully you can reboot, plug in the dongle and use it

Re: Toshiba Satellite M645: Headphone Jack and Bluetooth

I only hear noise on my speakers if I plug the headphones into the microphone jack. The headphone jack on mine is the one closer to the front of the laptop

Re: installed new kernel, network gone!

What does the command route show you in terminal? You have an IP address from your router and can ping outside IP addresses. I don't think this is simply a kernel issue

Re: Toshiba Satellite M645: Headphone Jack and Bluetooth

There doesn't appear to be a bluetooth chipset in the laptop. Go into Sound Settings/Output and see if the headphones are shown after plugging in

Re: installed new kernel, network gone!

You should go into Network Setting for the wired connection, IPv4 tab and add 8.8.8.8 as a DNS server

Re: installed new kernel, network gone!

It might be a DNS/DHCP issue, can you ping anything?

Code: Select all

ping -c3 8.8.8.8
Or able to ping the router? ping -c3 192.168.0.1[/code]

Re: How come the new LInux Kernels suggested by the update manager do not work

It might be best to stick with the 4.4 kernels from the Update Manager if your equipment works with it. Anything higher than 4.13 will risk breaking dkms modules from the repos as Ubuntu hasn't patched them for 4.15 as Ubuntu 16.04.5 will be released in August with the 4.15 kernel

Re: How come the new LInux Kernels suggested by the update manager do not work

There were some issues with 4.15.0 kernels from Ubuntu as they had an unversioned dependency on linux-base and the 4.15.0-20 kernel when installed with the update manager wouldn't install the linux-modules-extra package. It seems that the linux-base version issue was fixed in 4.15.0-22 and the linux...

Re: No Ethernet and WIFI connection.

If you used the Mint Update Manager to install that kernel, do a refresh and see if there is an update for the update manager as this problem should have been fixed

Re: No Ethernet and WIFI connection.

Reboot and use Grub Menu/Advanced Options to boot into an older kernel, then with working networking do

Code: Select all

sudo apt install linux-modules-extra-4.15.0-20-generic
Reboot
