Can you use the grub boot menu, hold Shift key during boot until it appears, choose advanced options, then scroll down to the first 4.10 kernel entry, press enter to boot into it and then try my command

I would do sudo apt-get purge bcmwl-kernel-source broadcom-sta-common broadcom-sta-dkms Reboot I have a BCM4313 and it doesn't need any of those packages installed for it to work as it uses the open source kernel module brcmsmac. You might need to reboot into an older kernel to do this

Reboot into the installed Linux Mint and install it from there, or is there another issue?

Both methods work, it is easier to reverse the change if you dont add it to /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf
With the 7260 also try
