Re: Cinnamon crashes after installing kernel 4.13.0-26

The nvidia-340 in the Ubuntu repositories hasn't been updated yet to support the the 4.13 kernel. I would suggest installing the newest 4.4.0 kernel

Re: Intel AC 8260 firmware load failed

That wifi won't work at all without firmware, the results from terminal for

Code: Select all

lshw -c net

Should show that version 13 of the firmware did load or you could

Code: Select all

dmesg | grep iwl

And possibly see that the firmware loaded

Re: Wifi preventing suspend with kernels higher than 4.8

The simple solution seems like the best one in this situation, install and use the newest 4.4.0 kernel. The 4.4 is supported until 2021 and even 4.13 will be EOL this coming August, 4.8 was EOL the past August and 4.10 was scheduled to be EOL at the end of this month

Re: Cinnamon crashes after kernel update

Yesterday, I installed Linux Mint Cinnamon 64-bit 18.3 on a new (1 TB) hard disc. And updated things. Today, aware of Meltdown, I tried to update the kernel to 4.13. On reboot, Cinnamon crashed, and I reverted to kernel 4.10 - OK again. When will a working Meltdown-proof kernel be available to me? ...

Re: WIFI Issues

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack#Kernel.2FSupport.A16.04.x_Ubuntu_Kernel_Support The 4.4 kernel is supported until around April 2021, 4.8 was EOL August 2017, 4.10 will be EOL by the end of month but I think Ubuntu stopped support early because of the Meltdown patches, and 4.13 is o...

Re: WIFi disappeared after kernel upgrade to 4.13.0-26-generic

I would go back to the 4.4.0 kernels as you shouldn't have any more issues compiling the source code either manually or with dkms

Re: LAN Connection Wont Connect

I would try installing Linux Mint 18, not 18.? and see if it works correctly, then you can upgrade using the Update Manager to Linux Mint 18.3 and keep using the LTS 4.4 kernel. Having the 4.13 kernel might be causing the issue as Ubuntu might not have updated some of the third party modules to supp...

I would strongly suggest using the 4.4 kernels as they will get security patches for another 3 years

EOL as of last August, that is the reason I asked why anything newer than 4.4 was needed as it still has 3 years of support

Re: WIFI Issues

Why do you need a kernel newer than the 4.4?

I would try

Code: Select all

sudo sed -i 's/wifi.powersave = 3/wifi.powersave = 2/' /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf
systemctl restart network-manager.service

And see if the crashes stop

Re: Weak wifi signal

We can try the other option

Code: Select all

echo "options rtl8723be ant_sel=2" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/rtlant.conf

Then unload and reload the module

Code: Select all

sudo modprobe -r rtl8723be && sleep 20 && sudo modprobe rtl8723be
