Re: Why So Many Bad Kernels.

4.13 has reached end of life and will no longer get security updates, so the choices to get updates like for Meltdown and Spectre are 4.4 and 4.15. https://www.ubuntu.com/info/release-end-of-life NVIDIA 390 does not support OP's GT 210 graphics card. He is stuck with the legacy 340 driver while usi...

See if https://github.com/regalstreak/mt7610u_ ... o_20130916 works
I don't think many have had any luck since the 4.4 or 4.8 kernel

Re: Why So Many Bad Kernels.

karlchen, it is very likely that the Nvidia dkms module that Bob is using isn't updated to work with the 4.15 kernel in the xenial repos. The changelog shows no sign of a 4.15 patch for nvidia-340 http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/restricted/n/nvidia-graphics-drivers-340/nvidia-graphics-d...

Re: Why So Many Bad Kernels.

Well isn't that wonderful for the both of you and so helpful too. We didn't see you ask for help, you tried to paint a bad picture about the distro to new users, claiming that bad kernels are the norm. We both confirmed that there is no such norm. With comments like yours it's no wonder peop...

Re: usb image creation UEFI

I am not positive but I think the ISO supports UEFI and legacy boot and the Mint image writer won't change that as I have put ISO's on USB drive using an older BIOS laptop and could boot it EFI or BIOS on another

Try https://github.com/zebulon2/rtl8814au.git as I know it does work with 4.15 kernels. Yes only supported kernels show in the Update Manager

Re: Elantech Touchpad ELAN061D not working

You just need to click the edit button on your original post and add Solved to the subject. If you plan on updating kernels, I think I can make up some source code that will update with the kernel using dkms as that module will only work on your current kernel version

I think this module I made will work for you on the 4.15.0-20 kernel, in terminal do

Code: Select all

cd /lib/modules/4.15.0-20-generic/kernel/drivers/input/mouse
sudo wget https://www.dropbox.com/s/e0qhczllt8havfg/elan_i2c.ko
Reboot
