Try

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source

Reboot, make sure you check UEFI/BIOS settings to make sure Secure Boot is disabled

Re: Wifi signal very poor after new Linux install

The antenna not being fully screwed in could cause a connection issue. I would look at the wifi card you have and compare to what you want to buy, also search the internet to see if the chipset is supported in linux before buying

Re: Real weak wifi

I hope you didn't install anything as the 4.4 kernel has the ant_sel parameter in the rtl8723be module. A lot of info in that thread is outdated Here is another post I made on ubuntuforums https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2365020&p=13661389#post13661389 sammiev, are you an Ubuntu member?

Re: Wifi signal very poor after new Linux install

You could try an Intel 7260 device and see if that works any better in the desktop pc or a TP Link WN722N 150 Mbps Version 1 if they can still be found

Re: Wifi signal very poor after new Linux install

I would actually use the Update Manager, View/Linux kernels and install the newest 4.4.0 kernel, reboot and hold Shift Key until the grub menu appears, then scroll to Advanced Options and select the 4.4.0 kernel to boot into and see if it works better

Re: Wifi signal very poor after new Linux install

Check the router settings, I don't really look at the percentage wifi signal as it doesn't matter in some cases. I can find my neighbors wifi at close to 400 meters when they are home

Re: Why the change in 18 from wlan(?) to wlx..and a whole string of characters?

Capt Turk, you must have a USB wifi device and the string of characters after wlx should be the MAC address

Re: LM 18.1 MATE 64bit - Driver for usb wifi adapter "TP-Link Archer T2UH" wanted

This guide is about the T1U, not about the T2UH. Well at least, somehow it did work (sort of!), but only for channels 36 to 48. Changing channels didn't work without rebooting Mint. The device just doesn't exist for Mint, if you set up your router to higher channels. The device also doesn't work fo...

Re: Thinkpad keeps disconnecting from wifi, but the wifi icon still shows connected

I would try

Code: Select all

echo "options iwlwifi 11n_disable=8" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/iwlopts.conf

Reboot

Re: LM 18.1 MATE 64bit - Driver for usb wifi adapter "TP-Link Archer T2UH" wanted

Code: Select all

cd ~/mt7610u_wifi_sta_v3002_dpo_20130916
sudo make uninstall
cd ~/mt7610u
sudo make uninstall

Then try https://askubuntu.com/a/819231/300665 while using a 4.4 kernel, if that doesn't work find a different device

I would blacklist mt7610u_sta, I don't know why the rt2800 would need to be blacklisted

Re: Wi-fi keeps disconnecting

You blacklisted the module for the internal wifi four times

Code: Select all

sudo sed -i 's/blacklist iwlwifi/#blacklist iwlwifi/' /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

Reboot

I suspect that you will have better luck with the 4.4 kernel, 4.8 hasn't been supported since August
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php ... st13670888
Chili555 says it won't work with 4.8, so 4.4 might work

Re: Internet wifi slow - Linux Mint 18.3 - HP Envy 6

You could try

Code: Select all

sudo sed -i 's/wifi.powersave = 3/wifi.powersave = 2/' /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf

Code: Select all

systemctl restart network-manager.service

See if disabling wifi power management helps
