Re: Playonlinux/ Renaming Items

As for MS Office, this one is always problematic to run with WINE. I can see on winehq there is only office 2013 installer listed, but nothing for excel or word. And this installer worked for only three people, rest set it as garbage (32-bit version, 64-bit seems to be even worse). I'm afraid that i...

Nevertheless thanks for your help.
What desktop environment are you using? Google Chrome should run totally fine with XFCE and probably MATE. It's more up to Netflix hunger for resources.

Re: How do I deregister from Forums?

Hacking problem is fixed. Whatever was stolen is already stolen and nothing can change that. From few days looks like site and ISOs are safe. And I believe it will stay this way for a very long time. Re: Just to be safe....

If your fstab uses UUID (Mint 17.3 uses UUIDS by default) cat /etc/fstab To display fstab content. Should be similar to Lolo's one (but UUIDS will be different, also you may have less or more positions). and you never installed any operating system on second hard disk, then plugging it in shouldn't ...

I just googled it, if you don't mind using Google Chrome:

EDIT: read comments. People say it doesn't work anymore. But you can give it a try anyway. Sorry for bad news.

Re: Trouble with OSX, can’t boot from DVD

You can check your BIOS (or whatever Apple uses) if it's set to boot from DVD. But to be honest, since it worked earlier and I'm not familiar with Apple, it's just simplest guess.
You can also check if other computer starts from DVD correctly (live mode will do) just to be sure that DVD is ok.

Re: How to force all apps through TOR?

It's sad that you're giving up so easily. I want to tell you that most of stuff I've learned about Linux - it was on my own. Google, Google... and Google. I asked about something maybe once or two. Since I'm bad teacher I won't explain you basics. Just to let you know however: Linux Mint graphic env...

Re: Broken Cinnamon Menu!

Hello. I would like to make a bug from this. I've got same errors, provided fix also worked for me. After digging a little, as you can see: -rw-r--r-- 1 miggoy miggoy 0 Dec 22 11:19 cinnamon-applications.menu size of this file is zero! If it's zero, it's broken and menu won't load, work, etc. In my ...

Re: Dropbox shortcut under 'My Computer'

Can't you navigate to where the folder is, then click and drag it into the list? You also have yet to say which version (XFCE, KDE, Cinnamon, MATE) you have. But the above works in XFCE. I also would do the same thing as author of this topic. Your solution isn't working for MATE. And since I found ...

Re: How to: Create remote access & desktop. SSH

1. Yes, sorry, I'm using mate, if you have cinammon or other DE you have to replace mate-sessions to correct one. 2 & 3. After installation of tightvncserver you should remove xstartup config file - it was using the old one, from vnc4server. Anyway try this one for vnc4server: #!/bin/sh # Uncomment ...

Re: How to: Create remote access & desktop. SSH

Hey Ka2, sorry for late reply. By default as far I remember port 22 is uncommented. But I might be wrong. I'm glad you have fixed this and your terminal SSH works correctly. About your VNC problem - you need to edit on your vnc server vnc config file. Run on server: nano ~/.vnc/xstartup And make sur...

How to: Create remote access & desktop. SSH

Remote desktop... something you will love if you have few computers and maybe a small, home file server. To be honest, if for some reason you had to configure your router/modem - you did it remotely! But I'm not going to tell you why remote access is beautiful, I'm going to make a nice tutorial. I h...

Re: Installing failure

Relax. In short, PAE lets you use more than 4 GB of RAM memory.
I'll also add that your HP is very old and by default have only 256 MB of RAM. If you don't have at least 1 GB (I suggest way more) then you should use xfce instead of cinnamon.

Re: Newbie Can't Update Mint

Just installed Mint and tried to download the updates but it failed. It could be a problem with the software sources. Try running the update in a terminal, sudo apt-get install update and post the results here in a CODE box. Small fix, it's isn't sudo apt-get install update but sudo apt-get update ...
