Re: Is Clonezilla designed to be invisible & useles to upset

P.S.

So I tried to use gparted to make the 128Gb SSD drive partitioned so that the used 11Gb becomes a partition of 25Gb; so it is smaller than the SD or USB sticks each at 32Gb.

But gparted gave me the middle finger also.

I give up.

I want to wipe the hard drive with a sledgehammer.

Re: Will my Samsung SSD work without its "Magician" software

This has to do with the topic on hand, however if the Moderator team feels I need to create my own thread, just say so. I have 2 of these Samsung 840 EVO SSD's, the newest being the 250GB model, which dual boots Windows 7 & 8. The one that I had (120GB), am going to install Mint 17 to it as soon as...

Re: Firefox Start up issue. i7 Delayed reactions.

have you checked the keyboard settings and typematic rate? Also ext2 format is suggested as best for use with SSD and other type flash drives. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ext2 " ext2 is still the filesystem of choice for flash-based storage media (such as SD cards, and USB flash drives), since its...

Why do I get an update warning about "linux-libc-dev"?

On Update Manager; this warning appears:- "This package provides headers from the Linux kernel. These headers are used by the installed headers for GNU glibc and other system libraries. They are NOT meant to be used to build third-party modules for your kernel. Use linux-headers-* packages for that....

Re: Too many editions?

All this complaining by linux noobs is entertaining. They don't know the history. Many years ago someone at RedHat had the same idea and came up with Bluecrap. Oh sorry it was blue curve. Well it was a total flop. Now there are a bunch of noobs that want to do it again. There are not to many editio...

Re: Mint 17 MATE. Already 180+ updates and 165MB+ download?

Since Linux Mint uses the Ubuntu base repositories and Ubuntu 14.04 was released in April you will find that most of the updates come from Ubuntu. True, hadn't considered that one. I'm just always surprised a new distro comes with so many updates a week later. Yeah; I get that on one of my other co...

Have you considered looking for a solution on the Linux Mint Japanese language forum here >>> http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewforum.php?f=223 ??? Thank you for that. I did a few searches; but after 200 fails while finding 225,000 results to search through, I eventually re-installed LinuxM...

So welcome in the LM community! It is very interesting to read your MS experience. It seems I was a VERY lucky guy as I never had such bad experience with MS. My story into the Linux and LM world is here: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=167785 I am setting up an old ThinkPad x40 a...

Re: [SOLVED] ACCURATE instructions for Noobs THEMES?

Linux Mint, like all Linuxes, is highly configurable and even when you change a theme, within the parameters of that theme you can still change other items such as which style of cursor to use or the highlighter colours used by your file manager. Cinnamon, in my opinion, can be customised to a grea...

Re: ACCURATE instructions for Noobs themes?

I also only know it as LinuxMint 17, I have no idea if it is MATE, Xfce, LMDE or KDE (because I am a Noob, and was not clearly informed about the version beyond the LM17 name)) do this for fun, copy this code into your terminal and post what it says ps -A | egrep -i "gnome|kde|mate|cinnamon|xfce" I...

Re: ACCURATE instructions for Noobs themes?

It is essential that you check that any theme you download has been adapted for the version of Linux Mint that you are using. Linux Mint 17 is still a Release Candidate and not the final version. To put it another way, "you jumped the gun". Desktop compatibility is shown on the Themes Download page...

Re: Too many editions?

I know Linux is about choice, but is it possible that it has too many editions? KDE, Gnome, Unity, Xfce, Debian, Cinnamon, MATE. etc. Is it feasible to hope the communities could pool their resources and create one super-polished environment? I think together Linux has more developers and talent th...
