Re: Where are the user-dictionaries located?

I don't think you can do that as thunderbird etc come with default languages so to get the correct one for your country you have to d/l and install the package, I did a search on google and nothing popped up with results to your question. I maybe wrong, but I had to d/l my language packages for thu...

[SOLVED] Where are the user-dictionaries located?

I am preparing to do a clean install of Mint 19.2 Cinnamon in about a month (not an upgrade). Where do I find the user dictionary files in Mint 19.1 (with the entries I've added of custom words)? I use Thunderbird, Firefox and sometimes the Chrome browser. I just want to make sure I get a backup of ...

Re: Touchpad freeze on Mint 19

I spent yesterday searching the Internet again for solutions. LOL, when you search on Mint freezing there are a bazillion tales of woe... just a vast wasteland of stuff to wade through. But I do believe I have this fixed (not sure though) but at least it is working for me now without me having to do...

I have Mint 19 Cinnamon installed (my configuration is listed below). My cursor freezes and the computer will not function when this happens. I have to do a hard shutdown. Windows 10 booting removes Grub2 dual boot menu

I had a Windows 10 laptop, and installed Mint 19 Cinnamon. Everything was working great. I would boot the laptop and see options to boot into either operating system. This morning, I must have changed a setting in Windows that overwrites my Grub2 menu. I have no idea what I did but now Windows boots...

Re: Advice needed for a solid backup/recovery plan.

Since you are still using Win10, are you aware of Macrium Reflect ? if not, download the Free version, and then go to Tools/create boot media make sure that you click on Options to add more resources. That will give the backup CD/USB media the capability to boot up on any PC model/brand. Macrium Re...

[SOLVED] Advice needed for a solid backup/recovery plan.

I have a dual boot setup with Windows 10 Pro on one SSD, and Mint 19 with Cinnamon on the other SSD. Now that everything is working perfect, I was hoping to get set with a good backup/recovery plan. My data is all in the cloud and backed up, so that is not a problem. I am concerned with being able t...

[SOLVED] Security questions - encrypt home, secure boot & bitlocker

I just installed a dual boot with Windows 10 Pro on one SSD and Mint 19 Cinnamon on the second SSD. I disabled secure boot and never enabled bitlocker (on Windows) and didn't encrypt Home because I was worried it may be one more thing that could screw up my install. Well, now everything is installed...

/etc/default/grub
GRUB_GFXMODE=1024x768 <<< for the grub menu
GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=1024x768 <<< for the plymouth theme (mint logo)
sudo update-grub
That worked. Thank you (all who helped here) very much.

[SOLVED] How to increase font size in grub2

I have just installed Mint 19 Cinnamon to dual boot with Windows 10. This is a high resolution display (3840 x 2160). The grub menu that displays the boot choices (Mint or Windows) is super tiny. Is there a way to increase the font size in that menu?

One last post, in case someone else has this computer and wants to know if Mint still bricks the Thinkpad X1 Extreme. Re: Pre-install check - Thinkpad X1 Extreme

FWIW, after a few days surfing the Internet, it sounds like Mint/Ubuntu just bricks this computer. I did find this today that suggests another distro that does work out of the box with the Thinkpad X1 Extreme. I've used Mint for a lot of years now... I hate to leave it. But maybe this is the way to ...

Under "Troubleshooting" it gives instructions for dealing ...

In my opinion, 100 GB is too much space for Windows that's not going to be used much at all.

I have Windows 10 and I gave it 60 GB. I have a few things on the disk for tax season. It's using 45 GB at the moment.
Thanks, I appreciate your quick help and advice.

But, I am still tempted to just do another Mint-only install. I really didn't miss much doing this over the past 5 or so years.
