Re: What's the current thinking on online (cloud) backup?

What ever you put on a ' cloud server ' remember it is still a server located somewhere. Always keep backups of important data and files off line where ever possible. And never put anything that would or could be thought of as ilegal or sketchy on a cloud storage system .

Re: mint 18 no internet install

The point was internet is required now for the codecs where it was not before. I could have a useable system with just the iso download. If i am going to install the codecs as a seperate item then i will use a different distro. As far as my friends and i are concerned mint with out the included code...

mint 18 no internet install

One of the things that my firends and i like about mint 17 and earlier is that no internet is required for a basic working distro. We could play most of our videos and do office stuff. Now we are reading that to do the same with 18 we will need an internet connection. So with mint 18 matching the in...

kaffeine works really good in 17. I use it with a pinnacle 800i and a wintv 1600. Both of those are pci cards . You can check if kaffeine sees your tuner by opening up kaffeine and at the top click on television then configure television . Under the configure tab the 2nd tab over should show your tu...

Re: Disk Partitions -- Best Practice ?

I usually make 3 partitions on the os drive. Onw for the os , one for the swap , and one for the data. Most of the time i use a 500 giger for this . So i would have 1- ext4 , 1-swap , 1-NTFS . I have other nachines which run windows .Now on a 500 giger i would use 50 for ext4 , 3 for swap , and the ...

Re: partitioning on 3 hard drives

I use gparted live cd to do my linux and windows xp drive partitioning. Works just fine and you can label the partitions with the name you wnat. Maybe this helps maybe not just what i use to partition. I never have any luck using the installer partitioner.

Re: about security

In all fairness it does not matter what you use. If someone or some entity decides they want into your machine and are going to spend the time and resources then they will get into it. There is more of a threat from those people living in apartment buildings from other residents hijacking your inter...

Did a clean install because i wanted to see difference if any between .2 and .3 installs. Hardly none at all , if anything a little faster. thi...
