Re: repository names incorrect on new install kde 14

Thanks for confirming I'm not the only one. I was looking at the bug list for KDE 13 and a similar problem was reported. I am very surprised it is still in KDE 14. A suggested fix in KDE 13 was to copy the repository setup for Ubuntu from the live install media. I have subsequently tried copying the...

[fixed] repository names incorrect on new install kde 14

I was trying to find conky in repos. Activated what I thought were Ubuntu repos. No conky found. I noticed that many Ubuntu repos were named Nadia something. I changed them to quantal something and now seems I find conky and can install. Has anybody else seen this or did I just manage to mess my ins...

Re: Screen Resolution of XFCE

Check the xorg.conf and see if monitor is detected. Check to see if the resolutions you want are avaiable in the screens section. You KVM switch might be preventing the monitor from being detected. The fact that xrandr reports the max resolution available is 800x600 is not a good sign. xrandr is par...

Re: Unable to install Felicia from Install DVD - Busybox error

before anybody can help you, you need to try to boot without the pretty progress bar boot screen. At the boot prompt type a tab character. The use the cursor keys to edit out the quiet and slash from the boot parameters. Then hit enter. You will get a bunch of text scrolling across the screen as you...

Re: ( Unsolved, gave up )Volume control in panel ?

I could only get the "volume control" to be added to the panel by dragging it.

You can make a mixer for the panel by making a launcher that launches xfce4-mixer.

The mixer looks like a speaker, the master volume looks like a vertical bar.

Xfce CE 6 - can't add volume control with panel add

I can't seem to add the volume control via the +add to the panel. It seems like you can only drag the volume control to the panel. Other things like launchers seem to be able to be added via the panel add.

Is this a bug?

Audacity as normal user [fixed]

I can't get audacity to save projects or process any existing audio files I've copied from a windows system unless I am root. Are there any groups I need to add my normal user to that would affect this? Sorry -- my bad. When I copied the files I guess I was root or used root privileges. That meant t...

Re: my bottom toolbar has been removed

It might not bring back the original but you can modify the panels thru, settings>settings manager>panel. You can control the placement and display of the 2 Xfce panels. If you need to rebuild them you make them visible then right click and add item. You can put what you want on the panels. What I u...

Re: Problems with Samba fusesmb

Did you fill in the setup part of the fusesmb screen? I have problems like this if I don't fill in the user and global password correctly. Some windows machines setup sharing with no password and guest user and some need to have a specific user and password to gain access. I am running windoze now s...

Re: CONKY System Monitor - Fails to Start

Test it by opening a terminal and typing "conky &". You should get a default conky in a window. If that doesn't work, it didn't install right. If it works, you then need to put conky in your xfce autostarted applications. Again use conky &. You are on your own to find or develop your own .conkyrc fi...

Re: nvidia driver for tnt2

I have a tnt2 riva card and according to the Nvidia website. There is no support for the newer Xorg. I think their answer to when is "someday". Unless you need 3d support, just use the open nv driver. I could not see any difference in performance in Mint 5 with nvidia vs the nv driver in mint6 RC1. ...

Possible to upgrade Xfce 4.4.2 to 4.6.0 ?

4.6.0 is out now. Can Mint 6 xfce (4.4.2) be upgraded to 4.6?

Can this be done with package uninstall / install? or are the a bunch of dependencies and config files that will get hosed?

Re: Gloria XFCE CE Develoment

Maybe provide a Mint XFCE "base" and encourage customization on final install. You could provide a live DVD for those who want the kitchen sink. The CD R is getting ready to take its place with the floppy disk. Also put as much effort as possible into keeping the memory foot print low. I like to run...

Re: Back up using a partition

I agree, it should be fine especially if you use something with compression to make the backup. Just be careful that when the installer detects and lists the partitions, that it does not make any mistakes in identifying them. I had an occasion where I confused the installer somehow, and it got the s...

Re: Floppy drive icon behavior in mint 6 xfce rc 1

I checked with groups from command line. My non root user is part of floppy group. Root is not. Root belongs to only one group according to groups, root. The xfce manage users and groups does not show the floppy group. I guess I have run out of curiosity on this one. I am of the opinion that the cod...

Re: Floppy drive icon behavior in mint 6 xfce rc 1

The behaviors are substantially the same between mint 5 xfce and mint 6 xfce rc1 Firstly, the floppy module is not loaded. Not really a problem since not many floppies any more. Secondly, the icon on the desk top and short cut in Thunar have only Mount and Eject as the right click options. In Slackw...

Xorg 7.4 gives goofy screen resolution nvidia tnt2 riva (nv)

I was surprised to see that the non-free nvidia driver no longer support my old video card. nvidia says that they will some day support it again, but its a very old card.... The nv driver works well enough, but the new version of Xorg gives a resolution of 1154x864 as default. In mint 5 xfce you get...

Floppy drive icon behavior in mint 6 xfce rc 1

I am testing RC 1. I notice that it does not load the floppy module by default. I guess that is reasonable given they are seldom used now. I added the floppy module with modprobe floppy. I get the pretty green floppy icon on desktop. The right click action gives option to mount, which works. Then wh...
